Malawi invites bids for 2017/2018 National Roads Programme

The Malawi Roads Authority is inviting sealed bids from contractors following the release of funds on 27th March 2017 for road rehabilitation works under the Road and Bridge Maintenance Programme for the procurement of various Civil Works contracts in the financial period 2017 / 2018 of the National Roads Programme.

Cost estimates for the various projects are within the range of over US$300,000 to US$1,400,000 (Malawi Kwacha 200m and 1bn).

The projects include:

  • Northern Region: A total of 17 No. projects are slated for the Northern Region, which also includes pavement repairs and pothole patching, improvement to accident spots, traffic markings, and replacement of road signs and road furniture.
  • Central Region: Priority works include urgent and emergency maintenance works in districts including Salima, Dedza and Ntcheu. Also 18 No. projects are slated for the Central Region, including: the Kaphiri- Bunda turn-off Section; Replacement of the Diamphwe Bailey Bridge with a concrete Deck on Diamphwe-Mikondo, and repairs and pothole patching, slurry sealing, and other routine maintenance works on Lilongwe City Roads.
  • Southern Region:  A total of 27 No. projects including works to the Blantyre-Chingeni road, the Mangochi-Naminga road, the Miseu 4-Migowi-Chiringa road, and the Thyolo-Muloza road, and for the districts of Neno, Mangochi, Thyolo and Mulanje. The works will include routine maintenance, repairs and pothole patching.
