Elon Musk and his Boring Company will take cars underground

Elon Musk who brought us the Tesla electric car, solar powered house tiles, the SpaceX rocket programme and the hyperloop high speed train has set up a tunnelling venture to create underground car tunnels under our cities.

According to Elon Musk, the company’s goal is to enhance tunneling speed fast enough to make underground tunnelling financially feasible. Elon Musk commented, “If you think of tunnels going 10, 20, 30 layers deep (or more), it is obvious that going 3D down will encompass the needs of any city’s transport of arbitrary size.”

The Boring Company has just released a video of their concept, shown above.

In February 2017, his company began digging a 30′ wide, 50′ long tunnel at their SpaceX location in Los Angeles. Due to their location and the size of the excavation they didn’t require any legal approval or oversight, but digging under a city might prove another issue.

With Elon Musk’s transport initiatives all moving ahead rapidly it will be interesting to see how long before The Boring Company announce construction of their first tunnels.
