Taking delivery of his new fourteen-tonne charge reunites Gavin Milven with the Volvo brand. “It was back in 2006 when I decided to venture forth on my own and was lucky enough to hire an EC140B from a larger contractor for a year before I could afford to buy the machine,” says Gavin. “I really liked the Volvo but after a while changed it and went elsewhere at that time. However, I’m pleased to be in a position to come back and buy the latest EC140E model,” he continues. “I’m really amazed at the power and performance of the machine in terms of its digging ability and its tractive effort. I’m well impressed!!”

The new EC140E will be deployed on all manner of agricultural contracting projects undertaken by G A Milven in and around the Dumfries and Galloway area. Typical applications will include ditching and drainage on farm fields, farm track and forest road maintenance.

The new EC140E is powered by a four-cylinder Stage-IV compliant Volvo engine developing 122 nett hp and offers the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example, pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, whilst maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque.

When ECO-mode is selected, the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions – Mr Milven’s new machine is using just 7.3 litres of fuel an hour. “The fuel efficiency is equally impressive and I can undertake most of the jobs required just using ECO-mode,” says Gavin. “The AdBlue consumption is good too, so yes, I’m extremely pleased with my new machine,” he continues.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent, climate controlled system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour monitor provides ‘real time’ data of machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear and side view cameras.
