The needs are straightforward for a new road in the United Arab Emirates. “We need to produce quality asphalt, and high volumes of it,” said Adnan Elmasri, Operations Manager for Top Link Contracting & General Transportation, based in Dubai.

Top Link, a well-established contractor in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, is providing mix for a new highway that will greatly alleviate the traffic on Ras Al Khaimah Road – a major thoroughfare. The new construction will create a bypass around Ras Al Khaimah and connect to roads going south of UAE.

Top Link turned to the Ammann ABA 260 UniBatch Asphalt-Mixing Plant to provide the necessary quality and quantity. ABA UniBatch plants are among Ammann’s most popular. They are known for a low initial investment cost and their ability to be easily customised to precisely match the customer’s needs.

The new project is a 40-km highway with three lanes in each direction. Construction began in 2016 and will be completed in 2018. The ABA UniBatch will create more than 400,000 tonnes of asphalt mix by the job’s completion.

Production is essential on a large-scale construction project like this. “The plant can produce 260 tonnes per hour,” Elmasri said. “The mix is a good quality and a good quantity.” Reliability is excellent, which is essential when working to meet high production goals.

Top Link also appreciates the proprietary Ammann as1 Control System. “The system is flexible and simple to use,” Elmasri said. “Everyone can use it. After a little time, it makes everyone look like a genius.”

Elmasri said Top Link plans to buy more Ammann asphalt-mixing plants in the future. The company also recently took delivery on an Ammann EmulTEK plant, which is capable of producing high volumes of bitumen emulsion.
