A road surfacing business, set up just four months ago, is celebrating after moving in to its very first premises at Moss Industrial Estate, in Leigh.

Northern Asphalt Surfacing has won some significant contracts since it started trading at the end of 2019. Now, with key worker status, the business is currently supporting major utility companies with emergency road repairs due to incidents such as burst water pipes.

Owner, Lee Waring, has worked in road surfacing and tarmacking since he left school at 16. Now, at 31, he’s set up his own business from scratch, working with private and public sector organisations across Greater Manchester.

Lee said: “It’s never easy starting a business and it is certainly a challenging time for the country and the economy right now but I have taken things slowly and built the business one step at a time. This is a very exciting move for us as we now have somewhere safe and secure to store all our equipment and vehicles. It’s also a very attractive and friendly place to work.

“We chose Moss because the location is perfect as it’s just off the East Lancs Road, with easy access to the motorway network. Security was a very important factor for us too and there is 24-hour surveillance here with CCTV and onsite security personnel. There are also opportunities for us to grow and scale up on the estate too.”

Moss Industrial Estate is owned by family-run business, George Moss & Sons, which is celebrating its centenary in 2020. The Industrial Estate is home to around 100 local businesses, of varying sizes and industries.

Sebastian Moss, managing director of Moss Industrial Estate, said: “We are always proud to support start-ups and we have been helping local businesses to grow for 100 years now.

“Northern Asphalt Surfacing is doing a tremendous job at the moment, supporting essential utility services to carry out urgent repairs, and we would like to congratulate them on everything they have achieved so far.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Lee and his team to Moss Industrial Estate and we look forward to supporting them as they grow their business.”
