Polar-Bur trailer makes its European debut with TIP Trailer Services
Forming the centrepiece of TIP’s recent open day event was the brand new ‘Polar-Bur’ temperature-controlled lifting deck trailer from manufacturer Don-Bur, which made its full UK and European debut at TIP’s 2-day event held recently at Stoke City FC.
Featuring one of the latest state-of-the-art Thermo King Advancer A500 refrigeration systems supplied by Marshall Fleet Solutions, the Polar-Bur trailer on display was the first of two of these brand new trailer designs that are being supplied by TIP Trailer Services to its customers.
Alongside the debutant Polar-Bur trailer, were two other Don-Bur trailers including a 13.7 m teardrop curtainsider and a 13.6m fixed deck box trailer.
Also on display at the TIP Open Day were a selection of new trailer designs from other long-term trailer suppliers to TIP, including two trailers from SDC and a concept longer length Link trailer from Dennison Trailers, designed specifically for the UK market.
Completing the TIP Open Day lineup were two electric vehicles, at 3.1 tonne and 16 tonne, from Renault’s ZE electric distribution range that are currently available for hire or lease through TIP company GrayRentals in Hull, as well as one of the latest fully kitted out mobile service units that form part of TIP’s 100 strong fleet of support vehicles around the UK.
“Being able to host the launch of the first temperature-controlled lifting deck trailer from Don-Bur was a significant coup for us and reflects the long-term relationship that we have with the trailer manufacturer. Looking at the comprehensive display of both trailers and vehicles from all the manufacturers exhibiting at the Bet365 Stadium, meant that the visitors to our open days were treated to an excellent selection of trailers that showcased some of the latest industry technology,” said Mike Furnival, managing director UK&I, TIP Trailer Services.

Ideal for single temperature frozen applications, Don-Bur’s brand new Polar-Bur trailer has been designed to operate between +12 and -20°C, effectively an ATP Class C specification. The first Polar-Bur trailer that was on display at the TIP open day, was fitted with the latest Thermo King Advancer A500 refrigeration system, which was supplied and installed by Thermo King’s long-standing UK dealer, Marshall Fleet Solutions.
The Thermo King Advancer A-Series of trailer refrigeration systems feature an all-new design of architecture from TK that creates new standards for performance, temperature control and fleet connectivity. The Advancer unit addresses many of the wide range of operational and financial challenges faced by operators, including up to 40% quicker pulldown and 30% better fuel efficiency than the market average.
The 4.915 m high, tri-axle trailer was also fitted with an aerodynamic ‘EcoStream’ roof profile, which is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by between 10 and 16% depending on the route and environmental conditions. Don-Bur also estimates that when covering 80,000 miles per annum, the streamline roof of the Polar-Bur trailer also lowers CO2 output by an estimated 13 to 16 tonnes per annum.
“With Don-Bur’s tried and tested expertise in lifting decks over the last 30 years, their Polar-Bur reefer trailer is a natural progression which allows TIP to offer its customers even further technologically advanced options with regards to the supply of high quality temperature-controlled trailers. It also goes some way to addressing the current general lack of available manufacturing capacity in the temperature-controlled marketplace,” commented Mike Furnival.
SDC Trailers
SDC featured two trailers at the Bet365 Stadium including a 10m long, tandem axle ‘Urban’ Curtainsider trailer that benefits from a Dhollandia DHRM tuckaway 1500kg tail-lift complete with a steel/aluminium platform.
Alongside this trailer was a high specification SDC Freespan Curtainsider tri-axle trailer that featured a postless design and was 4.68m in height.
Dennison Trailers
Dennison displayed a concept Link trailer designed specifically for the UK market, based on a design currently in use within certain European countries. The longer length trailer combination had an overall combined length of 25.25m including the tractor unit.
The front trailer is a sliding bogie skeletal chassis which can carry a 20’ container or 20’ swap body, whilst the rear trailer consisted of a 40’ gooseneck skeletal, which can carry a 40’, a 45’ or 2 x 20’ containers, depending on the operators preferred configuration.
Dennison also confirmed that this concept trailer would also be available as a curtainsider dry freight box van or a refrigerated trailer.
Renault Trucks
From Renault Trucks’ 100% electric ZE distribution range, the 16 tonne D Z.E.rigid 4×2 on display, which can cover up to 200km on a single charge, was equipped with a Bevans box body. Powered by four 66kWh lithium-ion batteries, the Alternating Current synchronous motor with permanent-magnet technology delivers maximum power of 185 kW, continuous power of 130 kW and maximum torque of 425 Nm. The Z.E. reduction gearbox offers two forward speeds and one reverse.
Joining the D Z.E. was a 3.1 tonne Renault Trucks Master Z.E. Red EDITION panel van which offers a range of up to 120km real world autonomy. Powered by a 57kW Z.E. 100% electric engine, the 33kWh Lithium-ion is battery mounted under the floor, so there is no intrusion into the loadspace.
The recent TIP Open Days were delivered in partnership with Grayrentals, Don Bur, SDC, Dennison Trailers, Marshall Fleet Solutions, Thermo King Europe and Renault.
