Ramirent empowering Green Machines in Norway

Ramirent is now transforming the customer centre at Alnabru into the company’s green shift centre in Greater Oslo. All “green machines” in the fleet will now be available at Alnabru, biodiesel is shipped out to customers with their own fuel trailers, the premises are coloured green, and the staff is trained in the green shift.

Oslo Municipality has decided that the building and construction industry must be emission-free by 2025. As a market leader in machine rental, we now want to take the lead in green rental in Greater Oslo.

“We are concentrating this investment on Ramirent Alnabru, which will be the group’s first green shift centre”, says Executive Vice President Fredrik Brandal in Ramirent Norway.

98% Emission Free

“We have coloured the premises green and equipped the employees with new ‘green’ clothing. This may seem like a form of gimmick, but it is done to signal and visualize that we mean business. In addition, all our machines are now equipped with our own eco-label”, says Brandal, who states that 75 percent of the company’s equipment fleet is now fossil-free, and that 98 percent of all new investments are made in emission-free equipment.

But the green shift is not only about emission-free and electric machines, but also about providing an offer that supports a circular economy where we give customers an advantage and profitability by renting, instead of owning themselves, the EVP points out.

Shipping Fossil Free Fuels

District Manager for Ramirent Greater Oslo, Arne Tønsberg, explains that several concrete measures have been taken to make the customer center at Alnabru the company’s green shift center in the Oslo-region.

“We are transferring a significant fleet of ‘green machines’ to Alnabru. At the same time, we only fill our machines with biodiesel. Fuel trailers have been purchased with a tank and pump for delivery of HVO100 to construction sites. A trailer will be stationed at each of our four locations in Greater Oslo, so the access will be smooth for our customers. As is well known, we have also recently formed an extensive collaboration with BKK / Eviny with regards to electrical charging on building sites”, Tønsberg states.

“We know that the largest CO2 emissions occur through transport at certain times of the day. Therefore, we are now planning an even more environmentally friendly logistics in Oslo with a short-haul and flexible transport concept for customers where we utilize the least busy times of the day. In addition, we offer express deliveries with electric vans during hours when traffic is not so heavily congested”, adds EVP Fredrik Brandal.

Employees Trained in the Green Shift

The head of Region East in Ramirent, Geir Helland, emphasizes that the environmental investment in Ramirent applies to the entire east region of Norway.

“We are now ‘kickstarting’ the further environmental commitment of creating a green shift centre here at Alnabru. Just as important as the machine park itself are the employees and their competence. Therefore, we will now invest in extensive training and coaching of our employees in the green shift so that our customers receive the very best guidance in optimal use of the new equipment. At the same time, we must also be good at learning from customers’ own experiences and pass this on to new customers and users”, says Helland.
