A leading demolition and groundworks specialist has bought four of the first of JCB’s brand new Stage V 245XR tracked excavators.

Surrey-based Wooldridge Group has taken delivery of the new machines which were launched late in 2021. At just 1,720mm, the 245XR has a tail swing that is 40% shorter than the conventional 220X, with which it shares many features. It will compete in the 22-26 tonne reduced swing market, with a focus on exceptional levels of operator comfort, stability, productivity, efficiency and serviceability.

Supplied by dealer Greenshields JCB, each of the four high specification models has been equipped with a Leica 3D guidance system and Engcon tiltrotator to further enhance accuracy and productivity on site.

Wooldridge Group’s Senior Operations Director, Nobby Grimes said: “JCB has always been on our radar so when we were looking to invest in some zero tailswing machines we thought we’d try the JCB 245XR. Our operators had always wanted JCBs and we were really impressed with them.

“We work on mainly residential sites so the zero tailswing feature is really useful in tight spaces. The machines are easy to manoeuvre, the fuel economy is fantastic and it saves wear on the tracks.”

The JCB 245XR tracked excavators are powered by a highly efficient EU Stage V compliant JCB Dieselmax 448 diesel engine, delivering 129kW (173hp). The 4.8-litre engine uses a Selective Catalytic Reduction Filter (SCR-F) that comprises a combined SCR, Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) with a large ash holding capacity.

The new machine features full size, one-metre wide cab, which is the largest in the sector. It delivers exceptional stability for maximum lifting capacity while quality hydraulic components deliver smooth, precise operation. Easy access to all service and maintenance points also boost uptime.

Established in 1975, Wooldridge Group is a family-owned business working across a range of industries including groundworks, plant hire, road sweeping, demolition, muck away, property development, construction and landscape supplies – providing customers with a broad scope of services from demolition to delivery.
