Marlborough Highways launches fully-funded Construction Training programme

Marlborough Highways has partnered with Ixion, part of Shaw Trust, to deliver a two-week construction programme for the residents of the London Boroughs of Haringey, Hackney, and Newham.

Taking place at Marlborough’s Garman Road office in Tottenham and starting on 25 July 2022, the scheme forms part of the Shaw Trust Construction Academy, and will help attendees gain experience and qualifications, while developing their CV and interview skills. Once participants have completed the course, they will be guaranteed an interview with the opportunity to work at Marlborough.

The training is the first Sector-based Work Academy Programme to be delivered by Ixion in partnership with Marlborough, with both organisations proud to support the residents that are taking part. The fully funded course will cover health and safety, asbestos awareness, traffic management, manual handling and more, with the programme open to anyone not in education, employment or training, that is 18 or over and living in Haringey, Hackney or Newham.

Those that take part will receive a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card, which provides proof that individuals working in construction have appropriate qualifications for the job they do on site.

Ixion is a national, not-for-profit, training provider of skills and education. It is part of the Shaw Trust, which is one of the UK’s largest charities and believes everyone has the right to live a decent and dignified life. Shaw Trust strives for a fairer, more equal society, challenging inequality and seeking to break down barriers to enable social mobility. Working in partnership with organisations like Marlborough Highways, they put people at the centre, knowing the right support at the right time can make a huge difference to an individual’s life.

The programme is in line with Marlborough’s social value commitments in the London Boroughs of Newham, Hackney and Haringey, with the company passionate about playing a meaningful role in the communities that it serves. It is the latest initiative to be promoted by the company’s dedicated social values team, with the provision of local employment and quality training opportunities, just some of the ways in which Marlborough seeks to give back.

Nula Krawczynski, Social Value Coordinator, Marlborough Highways commented: “I’m very excited to be working with Ixion to deliver the first Marlborough Highways Sector-based Work Academy Programme. We are committed to supporting the local communities in which we work, this is a great opportunity for us to offer fully funded and industry specific training and qualifications to unemployed residents across our Hackney, Haringey and Newham contracts.

“As a leading local employer, Marlborough also have full time job opportunities available for the candidates to interview for, helping to address local unemployment issues, as well as the industry wide skills shortage in construction.”

The last remaining places on the programme are expected to fill fast. Visit their website for more information and to sign up to the two-week course.
