VivaCity and Nottingham City Council reducing congestion and emissions
VivaCity, the transport technology scaleup transforming cities into smarter and more efficient places to live and work, has today announced its partnership with Nottingham City Council to transform decision making on transport infrastructure in the local area.
Across Nottingham, VivaCity is installing 219 sensors with a mix of both ANPR traffic monitoring and Smart Signal Control systems. Alongside monitoring, the systems will ensure a range of datasets are achieved to improve Nottingham’s urban infrastructure.
Alongside transport initiatives, the city is also striving for Carbon Neutral Nottingham 2028 (CN28), a strategy aiming to see extensive changes over the next 5 years including Carbon reduction measures for transport, carbon removal and resilience and adaptation. VivaCity will support carbon removal by using data from traffic monitoring solutions to analyse how traffic behaviours correlate with air quality.
The rollout of traffic monitoring and junction optimisation across Nottingham will provide countlines, speed, classified counts and measurement of journey times between nodes, with data for key junctions in the city. The technology will enable accurate differentiation between transport modes and understand how different mode volumes affect pollution levels. The systems will be delivered in 4 tranches with tranche 1 to be installed in February and the final tranche in November 2023.
