Tadano announces two new truck crane models for the United States and Canada, expanding the range of lifting solutions for customers in those markets.

With their low axle weight, narrow transport width and long boom designs, the new Tadano GT-1200XL-2 and GT-800XL-2 can easily get special permitting for transport, making them ideal for taxi crane service. Tadano will display the new GT-1200XL-2 model in booth #F9707 for ConExpo 2023 attendees to see in Las Vegas.

The new Tadano GT-1200XL-2 and GT-800XL-2 truck cranes offer 120- and 80-US-ton (110- and 72.6-tonne) maximum lift capacities respectively. Built with many of the same field-proven, reliable components as Tadano GR Series rough terrain cranes, these new models offer the same high quality and rugged durability that customers have come to expect from Tadano.

Their narrow, 8.5-ft (2,59 m) travel width combines with a low base machine weight and optimized axle width to meet weight requirements, so special permits for transport are easy to get. To meet the most stringent axle load limits, a boom dolly trailer is available.

Comfortable to drive and operate

Offering a superior ride on rough terrain, these new truck cranes feature independent front and rear air suspension for a comfortable ride. The AIRTEK NXT and ROADMAAX developed by Hendrickson Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems are purpose-built suspension and steer axle system designed specifically with the Truck Crane drivers in mind. Boasting 12 forward gears with the ZF TraXon transmission, offering excellent stopping power and simple, low-cost servicing, both cranes are equipped with disc brakes on all wheels. With their self-rigging counterweight, the new truck cranes are quickly ready for lifting once on site, allowing them to complete multiple projects in a single day.

Their spacious, full-width driving cab includes a second seat to transport an additional crew member when needed. Meeting EPA 2021 on-road emissions standards, a Cummins X12 engine powers the cranes with 500 hp (373 kW) maximum output and 1,700 lb-ft (2305 Nm) maximum torque, and allows the crane a maximum 65 mph (105 km/h) travel speed to quickly get to the jobsite. Designed with fuel monitoring to prevent wasteful fuel consumption, a positive control system to meter the quantity of hydraulic pump discharge during crane operation, and Eco Mode to control maximum engine speed, the new Tadano cranes deliver maximum fuel efficiency.

The ergonomic lifting cab features a 15-degree tilt to reduce strain on the operator’s neck when lifting. The large in-cab monitor offers a clear view of operating parameters plus standard cable and backup camera feeds for safe and efficient operation. Long and strong boom design combines with asymmetric outrigger setup capability to offer excellent lift capacities on confined jobsites. With asymmetric outrigger capabilities, the cranes’ smart chart optimizes lift capacities and radius, especially when lifting over the outriggers.

Strengthening customer support, standard HELLO-NET telematics on both the GT-1200XL-2 and GT-800XL-2 connects the office, service technicians and Tadano to the cranes in the field. Its HELLO-DATA LINK wirelessly communicates real-time operation information to mobile devices, giving fleet managers the necessary data to make more informed business decisions.

Crane specifics

Offering a maximum lifting capacity of 120 US tons (110 tonnes) at an 8-ft (2.4 m) radius, the GT-1200XL-2 features a long-and-strong, new-design five section pinning boom. It offers a lifting range from 41 to 167.3 ft (12.5 to 51 m) and can be equipped with different jib designs in lengths from 33.8 to 58.7 ft (10.3 to 17.9 m) to optimize crane lifting capabilities.

Self-rigging counterweight options range from 7,700 to 55,100 lb (3,5 to 25 tonnes), allowing the crane to efficiently handle a range of lifts.

Boasting the longest boom in its class, the 80-US-ton (72.6 tonne) capacity Tadano GT-800XL-2 truck crane features a strong five-section boom that hydraulically telescopes from 39.5- to 154.3-ft (12- to 47-m) long. To increase lifting versatility, it can be equipped with up to a 58.7-ft (17,9-m) jib. Multiple self-removable counterweight configurations up to 17,850 lb (8.1tonnes) further increase lifting flexibility.

The new Tadano GT-1200XL-2 truck crane will be on display at the company’s outdoor Festival Lot exhibit #F9707 from March 14-18 at ConExpo in Las Vegas. The company invites all show attendees to Take a Closer Look at Tadano’s full range of lifting solutions.
