Volvo Trucks and DSV Air & Sea have signed an MoU to accelerate the shift to zero exhaust emission vehicles in Singapore. The Volvo FL electric would largely be used for urban transportation.

An important factor in DSV Air & Sea decision to ramp up the transition to zero emission vehicles is due to help drive the decarbonization of its transport and logistics services in Singapore and their positive experience it has with using an electric Volvo truck in some of the European markets – making last mile deliveries. This is only the first step and the beginning of something even greater.

Mr. Gino Marzola, Managing Director, DSV Air & Sea Singapore & Malaysia, said: “At DSV we are committed to reducing CO2 emissions in our day-to-day business activities. We offer holistic, green, value-added services to help reduce costs and CO2 emissions and design sustainable supply chains for the long term. We can significantly reduce our carbon emissions by switching to alternative vehicles like the Volvo FL Electric truck from traditional, diesel-powered ones. But more than just money is needed for this endeavour. To achieve our climate goals, it’s critical to collaborate with energy suppliers and large corporations like Volvo Trucks. The appropriate infrastructure must be in place, and many facets of society must work together.”

The intended order includes 1 Volvo FL Electric Truck, to be used for package deliveries in urban transports. City distribution is a series of challenges. Heavy traffic. Narrow alleys. Lots of short stops. The Volvo FL is best equipped to take goods to destination – quickly and safely. This truck is developed and adapted for the city environment, providing productivity, visibility, manoeuvrability and safety.

Ms. Anna Engblom, Managing Director for Southeast Asia & Japan at Volvo Trucks, said: “This is the ideal time to start selling electric trucks in Singapore. We are a market leader and have a significant role to play in reducing our sector’s CO2 emissions and paving the road toward transportation electrification. To decarbonize the trucking industry, we’re committed to collaborating with our clients. We want 50% of our new trucks sold globally to be electric by 2030 and 100% to be net-zero emissions by 2040.”

She also continued: “In recent years many clients have switched to electric in Europe and elsewhere, and that will accelerate. Governments have a significant role to play, influencing how quickly nations transition to electric power. Many progressive governments are leading the transition through financial incentives, targeted tariffs, environmental zones and more to speed up adoption.”

The vehicle is offered with service and support packages for charging, route and range planning, battery monitoring, and more to make the switch to electric mobility less complicated.

Mr. Joseph Heng, General Manager UD Trucks Singapore, said: “We are thrilled and looking forward to introducing the 1st Volvo FL Electric to the Singapore market by early 2024. Our team is currently undergoing electrification with all the necessary trainings, parts, tools, and equipment in place to ensure we meet Volvo EV readiness prior to the arrival of the first Volvo FL electric truck.

“We are also working closely with local partners and our team to establish a comprehensive charging infrastructure and comprehensive service package ‘Gold Service Agreement’ that complements the FL Electric’s capabilities to ensures DSV can easily integrate electric truck into their fleets without compromising operational efficiency and also give them a piece of mind throughout this EV journey with us.”

We encourage our customers to use the Environmental Footprint calculator when planning their future fleet. They get a holistic view of how different choices can change your environmental footprint, and you can easily compare your alternatives at hand. The calculator can give a clear indication of how our trucks minimise the environmental footprint in their transport chain. And our customers can win more contracts.
