BCP and Dorset Council awards Traffic Signal contract to Yunex Traffic
Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) and Dorset Councils have renewed their traffic signal maintenance contract with Yunex Traffic for up to a further five years.
Having already held the contract for more than 13 years, Yunex Traffic will continue to be responsible for maintaining all the permanent traffic signal and ITS equipment across the Councils, as well as the installation of new equipment as required.
Dorset and BCP Councils have clear goals around reducing carbon emissions and creating sustainable active travel networks. Through this contract, Yunex Traffic will be supporting both authorities’ pursuit of these goals, with the latest sustainable traffic signal solutions, including Plus+, set to be introduced across the county.
The company will also be supporting both Councils with a traffic signal retrofit programme, replacing existing halogen lamps with LED units. The result of this work will see reductions in both carbon emissions and energy consumption by up to 80%.

“We already have a good relationship with Yunex Traffic having worked with them alongside Dorset Council for more than 13 years, and their emphasis on reducing energy costs and helping reduce our carbon footprint was a significant factor in us renewing our partnership.
“We look forward to continuing our work with them, with a greater focus on the safety and efficiency of pedestrian junctions just one of many projects in the pipeline.”
Helping the Councils meet their sustainability objectives

Yunex Traffic will also meet the authorities’ strong focus on sustainable resource management, with 0% of the company’s equipment sent to landfill. The whole Yunex Traffic supply chain has a clear focus on the entire lifecycle of its products, ensuring they are fully sustainable.
Covering both traffic signal and intelligent transport systems (ITS) equipment, the contract includes the routine annual inspection, modification and refurbishment of all existing equipment, including traffic signal-controlled junctions and pedestrian crossings. It also covers the installation of new traffic signals and equipment at new and existing signal-controlled junctions and pedestrian crossings.
The scope of the contract includes the maintenance of 207 junctions, and 326 pedestrian crossings, as well as the Councils’ variable message and car park signs, ANPR cameras and weather stations. With an established local depot, the company will also be providing round the clock support in the event of traffic collisions or major disruptions to service.
