VINCI Helping to Transform Prague’s Transport Infrastructure
VINCI Construction has bolstered its position as a pivotal force in European infrastructure development, winning two transformative transport contracts in the Czech Republic.
These projects, valued at a combined €417 million, are set to revolutionise connectivity and modernise critical transport networks, further solidifying VINCI’s legacy in sustainable construction.
The Prague Ring Road Expansion: A Path to Smoother Traffic
In a landmark initiative, VINCI Construction subsidiaries Eurovia CZ and Stavby mostů have joined forces with Austrian group PORR to tackle a vital upgrade to Prague’s transport system. This consortium will construct a new 12.6-kilometre eastern section of the Prague Ring Road. Designed to alleviate the notorious congestion within the Czech capital, this stretch will divert through traffic away from the city centre, improving flow and reducing emissions.
With a project value of €385 million, construction will kick off in early 2025 and is projected to wrap up by 2027. The ambitious scope includes:
- Building 19 bridges, ensuring seamless connectivity.
- Excavating two state-of-the-art tunnels for uninterrupted traffic.
- Establishing four level crossings and two pedestrian and cyclist bridges to prioritise safety and accessibility.
- Installing noise barriers to enhance urban living conditions.
This project is a testament to VINCI’s commitment to blending engineering excellence with environmental consciousness. By integrating pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure, the development promotes active transportation and a greener urban environment.
Revitalising Česká Třebová: A Freight Hub for the Future
In a parallel endeavour, VINCI will modernise the Česká Třebová railway hub, Central Europe’s largest freight station. This ambitious project, led by Eurovia CZ, forms part of a comprehensive upgrade to bolster the region’s rail infrastructure. With a total investment of €663 million, the consortium’s contribution focuses on refurbishing existing tracks and implementing the European Train Control System (ETCS).
Spanning from 2025 to 2032, this long-term project underscores the importance of sustainable logistics. Key features include:
- Upgraded tracks to accommodate increasing freight demand.
- Adoption of ETCS for enhanced safety and efficiency.
- Utilisation of rail transport for material movement, minimising environmental impact.
This initiative is not just about modernising infrastructure; it’s about creating a rail network that supports sustainable freight operations and integrates seamlessly into Europe’s wider transport ecosystem.
VINCI’s Footprint in the Czech Republic
These projects are only the latest chapter in VINCI’s enduring relationship with the Czech Republic. In 2023 alone, VINCI Construction generated over €1 billion in revenue in the country, underlining its role as a cornerstone of the nation’s infrastructure development.
Beyond construction, VINCI Energies plays a vital role in electrical infrastructure projects, while VINCI Concessions operates the D4 motorway under a public-private partnership agreement.
A Global Leader with Local Impact
As a multinational powerhouse, VINCI Group operates in more than 120 countries, employing 280,000 people to deliver world-class concessions, energy, and construction projects. Its mission transcends financial performance, focusing on environmental stewardship and social responsibility. VINCI’s proactive engagement with stakeholders ensures its projects serve the public interest while addressing sustainability challenges.
“Infrastructure projects like these exemplify VINCI’s dedication to innovation, collaboration, and sustainable progress,” said a VINCI spokesperson. “We aim to create systems that not only improve mobility but also enrich communities and protect our environment.”
Paving the Way for a Brighter Future
VINCI’s dual projects in the Czech Republic exemplify the synergy of engineering ingenuity and sustainability. From reducing urban congestion in Prague to enhancing freight efficiency in Česká Třebová, these ventures showcase the transformative power of modern infrastructure.
As VINCI continues to break ground—both literally and figuratively—it remains steadfast in its mission to build a better-connected, more sustainable world.
