VINCI Construction Secures Transport Contracts in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has entrusted VINCI Construction with two pivotal infrastructure projects, reflecting its commitment to modernising transport systems and bolstering connectivity. These contracts, awarded by the Ministry of Transport, spotlight the country’s drive to enhance urban mobility and freight logistics while setting the stage for sustainable growth.

Leading the charge on the first contract, VINCI Construction subsidiaries Eurovia CZ and Stavby mostů have teamed up with Austrian construction group PORR to deliver a transformative eastern extension of the Prague Ring Road. Spanning 12.6 kilometres, this EUR 385 million (US$ 396 million) project aims to ease congestion and provide an efficient transit corridor around the capital.

The project’s blueprint features:

  • 19 bridges to ensure uninterrupted connectivity for vehicles.
  • Two modern tunnels designed to maintain smooth traffic flow.
  • Four level crossings alongside two pedestrian and cyclist bridges to prioritise safety and accessibility for all road users.
  • Noise barriers to enhance quality of life for nearby communities.

Scheduled to commence in early 2025, construction is expected to wrap up by 2027, promising Prague residents a world-class transport artery.

Revitalising Central Europe’s Freight Hub

Parallel to the ring road development, VINCI Construction has also been awarded the task of modernising Česká Třebová, Central Europe’s largest freight station. This ambitious initiative aligns with the Czech Republic’s strategy to elevate rail transport as a cornerstone of its sustainable logistics framework.

Eurovia CZ will spearhead this EUR 663 million (US$ 683 million) endeavour, which aims to future-proof the rail hub’s capacity and efficiency. The modernisation efforts will stretch from 2025 to 2032, underscoring the strategic importance of long-term investments in infrastructure.

Key elements of the project include:

  • Upgraded tracks to accommodate increasing freight traffic and support regional trade.
  • Implementation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) to boost rail safety and operational efficiency.
  • A commitment to sustainability by prioritising rail transport for material movement during construction.

Strengthening Infrastructure for the Future

Both contracts showcase VINCI Construction’s prowess in delivering complex infrastructure projects that blend technical innovation with sustainability. The Prague Ring Road project not only promises faster travel times but also highlights the importance of integrating pedestrian and cyclist-friendly features. Meanwhile, the modernisation of Česká Třebová is set to transform Central Europe’s freight capabilities, making rail transport a more attractive alternative to road-based logistics.

Moreover, the projects reflect a broader European trend toward prioritising sustainability in large-scale infrastructure development. By integrating noise reduction measures and adopting rail for material transport, these initiatives underscore the potential of modern engineering to address environmental and urban challenges.

VINCI Construction’s Global Footprint

VINCI Construction’s involvement in these Czech projects is part of a larger narrative of their global expertise in infrastructure development. With a presence in over 100 countries, the company has built a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions tailored to local needs. From roadways in Europe to urban developments in Asia, VINCI’s commitment to excellence continues to leave a lasting impact.

Benefits Beyond Construction

By 2027, the Prague Ring Road extension will alleviate traffic congestion, reducing travel time and improving daily commutes for thousands. Similarly, the modernisation of Česká Třebová promises to revolutionise freight logistics, making rail transport more competitive and eco-friendly.

These projects highlight the critical role of infrastructure in shaping the economic and social fabric of nations. By enhancing connectivity and embracing sustainable practices, VINCI Construction’s efforts are setting benchmarks for the future of transport development in Europe and beyond.
