Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) made a bold statement at BuildTech Asia 2025, reinforcing its position as a front-runner in the global shift towards electrified construction machinery.

Under the compelling banner “Electrify Your Business,” Volvo CE is showcasing a growing line-up of electric machines, offering Southeast Asian markets a glimpse into a cleaner, quieter, and more cost-efficient future.

Singapore, already known for embracing innovation, was the first country in Southeast Asia to welcome Volvo CE’s electric machines back in 2023. Fast-forward to 2025, and the city-state has become a regional springboard for sustainable construction. From compact excavators to powerful wheel loaders, Volvo CE is rolling out a comprehensive electric range that’s already transforming job sites across Asia.

A Line-Up Built for the Future

At the heart of the showcase is the ECR25 Electric compact excavator, a machine that’s become something of a poster child for electric adoption in construction. Attendees at BuildTech Asia get up close and personal with this zero-emission marvel, designed for performance in tight urban spaces without compromising on power or productivity.

But the spotlight didn’t end there. Volvo CE also highlighted its broader fleet of electric machines available across the region:

  • L25 Electric Compact Wheel Loader – A low-noise, zero-emission workhorse ideal for sensitive environments like hospitals, schools, and residential areas.
  • EC230 Electric 20-Ton Excavator – Matching the performance of its diesel sibling, this machine offers lower operating costs and zero exhaust emissions.
  • L120 Electric Wheel Loader – A heavy-duty performer tailored for high-demand applications with near-silent operation and robust capability.

These electric machines are now available in China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, expanding Volvo CE’s regional footprint and reinforcing its commitment to greener job sites.

A Catalyst for Change

What really sparked local interest was Volvo CE’s alignment with Singapore’s Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG). The EEG offers financial incentives to businesses ready to invest in energy-efficient equipment, making the leap to electric not just environmentally smart but economically savvy.

Visitors to the Volvo CE booth learned how flagship models like the ECR25 Electric, L120 Electric, and L25 Electric qualify under the EEG scheme. For many in the construction industry, this could tip the balance towards adopting electric solutions sooner rather than later.

“BuildTech Asia 2025 is an important platform for Volvo CE to engage with industry leaders and showcase the future of construction equipment. With the support of initiatives like the EEG grant, businesses in Singapore now have an unprecedented opportunity to transition to energy-efficient and environmentally friendly machinery,” said Jaetack Lim, Head of Market East, Volvo CE.

“Our electric machines not only help reduce emissions but also improve operational efficiency, making sustainable construction more accessible and financially viable.”

Hands-On Experience and Smart Tech

Volvo CE don’t just talk the talk—they deliver a fully immersive booth experience. One of the biggest crowd-pullers was the excavator simulator, where attendees could test their skills on a virtual ECR25 Electric. It wasn’t just fun—it also gave potential buyers a real sense of how responsive and capable electric machines can be.

The booth is visually impressive too, with a garage-style backdrop showcasing Volvo’s entire electromobility range. Machines eligible for the EEG were clearly highlighted, guiding businesses towards smarter choices.

To round it all off, the Services Corner featured the My Equipment App.

This digital tool is a game-changer, allowing operators and site managers to:

  • Track battery charge status in real-time
  • Monitor power consumption trends
  • Get location updates
  • Receive maintenance alerts

All this can be accessed remotely, meaning site efficiency gets a tech-powered boost alongside the shift to electric power.

A Wider Industry Movement

Volvo CE’s electrification strategy aligns with a broader industry and regulatory trend. Governments across Asia are tightening emissions regulations, pushing OEMs and contractors to innovate or fall behind. By getting ahead of the curve, Volvo CE is not only future-proofing its product line but also setting a benchmark for what responsible construction looks like in the 21st century.

Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and regional initiatives such as Japan’s Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality are giving electric construction equipment a major push. Volvo CE’s early adoption and proactive outreach at events like BuildTech Asia put it in prime position to shape these evolving markets.

More Than Machines

While the machines themselves are impressive, the real story is Volvo CE’s commitment to changing the way the industry thinks. It’s not just about ticking ESG boxes—it’s about creating safer, quieter, and cleaner worksites that benefit everyone.

Electric construction equipment brings with it a raft of advantages:

  • No tailpipe emissions, improving air quality on and around job sites
  • Lower noise levels, reducing noise pollution and operator fatigue
  • Simpler maintenance, thanks to fewer moving parts compared to diesel engines
  • Reduced running costs, especially as electricity prices stabilise or fall

And with government incentives sweetening the deal, going electric isn’t just good for the planet—it’s good for business.

Shaping a Smarter, Cleaner Industry

Volvo CE’s showing at BuildTech Asia 2025 is more than a marketing push—it is a rallying cry for an industry in flux. As policy shifts, technology evolves, and client expectations rise, electric construction machinery is no longer the future. It’s the now.

The combination of innovative design, financial support through EEG, and a strong regional supply chain is paving the way for mass adoption across Asia. Volvo CE, with its trusted brand and cutting-edge technology, is in pole position to lead this charge.
