Edeva Secures Major Investment to Drive Global Smart Traffic Expansion
Edeva AB, the Linköping-based technology company on a mission to make cities safer and greener, has secured SEK 9.1 million in fresh investment. The funding will accelerate its ambitious growth strategy, enabling it to expand both in Sweden and across international markets where demand for intelligent traffic management is soaring.
The largest portion of the funding, SEK 5 million, comes from Botrygg, a respected family-owned real estate group known for constructing and managing residential and commercial properties. The remaining amount is provided by existing shareholders, reaffirming their confidence in Edeva’s vision and long-term prospects.
Edeva CEO David Eskilsson expressed his enthusiasm: “Having Botrygg join as a new owner is a strong endorsement of our business concept and our clear strategy. Their long-term perspective and experience will be an important asset in our expansion.”
Botrygg’s Strategic Move into Technology
Botrygg, while rooted in property development, has been diversifying into strategic investments. The group’s CEO, Adam Cocozza, explained the rationale: “We are keen to invest in companies where we believe we can contribute to creating value as active owners. We see Edeva as an exciting company with cutting-edge technology, strong references, and solid customer relationships. Their products are perfectly aligned with current market needs.”
This partnership combines Botrygg’s experience in building sustainable communities with Edeva’s expertise in creating innovative solutions for urban safety and environmental performance.
Actibump: A Smarter Approach to Speed Control
Edeva’s flagship product, Actibump, is redefining speed management. Unlike conventional speed bumps, which slow all traffic regardless of speed, Actibump only activates when a vehicle exceeds the posted limit. A retractable plate lowers into the road surface, creating a physical cue for speeding drivers to slow down.
The benefits extend far beyond road safety:
- Reduced accidents: Immediate feedback to drivers significantly lowers collision risk.
- Smoother traffic flow: Law-abiding drivers are not penalised, maintaining steady movement.
- Lower emissions: Fewer stop-start events reduce vehicle exhaust emissions.
Since the first installation in 2010, more than 120 Actibumps have been deployed across Sweden and internationally. The technology has been particularly embraced by municipalities seeking a data-driven approach to traffic safety.
The Power of Traffic Data
Complementing Actibump is Actinode, a sophisticated sensor system that collects real-time traffic data. This information feeds into EdevaLive, the company’s proprietary analytics platform. The system allows cities to:
- Monitor traffic speeds and volumes.
- Identify high-risk areas.
- Measure the impact of traffic-calming measures.
This data-driven approach enables policymakers to make informed decisions, optimise road design, and implement targeted safety improvements.
Strong Presence in Sweden, Expanding Internationally
Edeva’s solutions are already operational in numerous Swedish municipalities under a framework agreement with the Swedish Transport Administration. Internationally, installations can be found in countries seeking to address rising road safety concerns without sacrificing traffic efficiency.
The company’s strategy is clear: scale its solutions in markets where urbanisation, sustainability goals, and road safety are high priorities. From European capitals to growing cities in the Middle East and Asia, the appetite for intelligent, eco-friendly traffic management systems is growing.
Investment to Fuel Global Growth
The SEK 9.1 million funding round is not just about financial muscle; it’s about accelerating momentum. Edeva plans to:
- Strengthen its sales organisation to respond quickly to domestic and international opportunities.
- Expand international partnerships with infrastructure agencies, municipalities, and private developers.
- Enhance product development to maintain its technological edge.
CEO David Eskilsson summarised the opportunity: “This is an important step in our growth journey. The combination of fresh capital and strong shareholder support allows us to remain at the forefront of smart traffic solutions.”
Why the World Needs Smarter Traffic Solutions
The urgency for innovation in traffic management is undeniable. According to the World Health Organization, road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for people aged 5–29. Traditional measures like speed bumps and traffic lights, while effective to a degree, often disrupt traffic and contribute to emissions.
Edeva’s approach aligns with broader trends in smart cities, where technology is deployed to balance safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. By integrating data analytics, targeted enforcement, and infrastructure innovation, solutions like Actibump and Actinode help cities meet these challenges head-on.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
With Botrygg’s backing and the unwavering support of existing shareholders, Edeva is poised to bring its Swedish-engineered traffic solutions to a global audience. The company’s blend of safety, sustainability, and efficiency positions it well in a market increasingly defined by smart city initiatives.
As cities worldwide grapple with congestion, pollution, and road safety challenges, Edeva’s technology offers a path forward—where safer streets and cleaner air aren’t competing priorities, but complementary outcomes.
