World Bank funding new two-lane National Highway and 4 bridges in Afghanistan

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Trans-Hindukush Road Connectivity Project (THRCP) and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract for Construction of a new 2-lane National Highway from Sta 126+620 to Sta 151+200(Bamyan).

Trans-Hindukush Road Connectivity Project (THRCP)

The Ministry of Public Works(MPW) is now inviting sealed bids from eligible bidders for the construction of Segment 1 of a new 2-lane National Highway from Sta 126+620 to Sta 151+200 (Bamyan).

The major scope of works includes the following:

  1. Grading, Drainage, Granular Base and Flexible Pavement Structure
  2. Number of Bridges = 4
  3. Number of Box Culverts = 32
  4. Number of Pipe Culverts =58
  5. Number of Slab Culverts =46
  6. Length of RCC Retaining Walls =2,020m
  7. Length of Stone Masonry Retaining Walls = 13,605m
  8. Length of Stone Masonry Breast walls = 4,860m
  9. Installation of road furniture, steel beam guide rails/stone masonry wall, road signs and road markings
  10. Relocation of Affected Irrigation Canals = 2,290m
  11. Passing Lanes and Rest Area and Roadside Laybys (Emergency Parking Areas)
