Ammann will feature its Compaction equipment at SMOPYC 2017

The diverse Ammann roadbuilding product range will be showcased at SMOPYC 2017, to be held in Zaragoza, Spain, from 25-29 April 2017.

Featured products will include light compaction equipment, heavy compaction equipment and a display of the proprietary as1 Control System for asphalt and concrete plants.

Ammann heavy rollers include single drum, tandem and pneumatic models. All of them are known for intuitive control, exceptional visibility, operator comfort, high compaction output and easy access to service points.

The proprietary Ammann Compaction Expert systems ACEforce and ACEpro are available on many Ammann rollers. The Intelligent Compaction systems help eliminate unnecessary passes and the costs that go with them.

ACE systems deliver quality control by identifying uncompacted spots. ACEpro can even react and automatically adjust the vibration parameters. All measured values can be displayed and evaluated including load-bearing capacity of material, number of passes and frequency/amplitude values.

Among the specific rollers on display will be the ASC 70 Tier 3 Soil Compactor, a machine known for its no-rear-axle concept that enables stability and traction. Machine control is intuitive, helping inexperienced operators succeed.

The cab is spacious, and sound levels are low. A tiltable cab and engine hood make service access easy. Service and maintenance points are accessible from the ground. A Tier 4 compliant version of the machine also is available.

Also on display will be the Ammann ARX 23 Tier 4i Tandem Roller. The machine is light and works well in tight spaces and against curbs. It offers a spacious platform and sliding seat.

An electronic drive lever provides smooth starts and stops – essential on paving jobs. A three-stage filtration system prevents asphalt pickup, and a larger water tank extends filling intervals. Service and maintenance points are easily accessed.

Among the light compaction products on display will be:

Rammers

Ammann Rammers feature the best forward movement in the industry, helping contractors in all applications work productively and ultimately achieve compaction targets. The forward moving ability makes them the tool of choice for contractors and rental agencies.

Because the rammers are so easy to use, operators of all experience levels are able to perform productively. A patented process enables rammer height to be easily adjusted, another significant operator comfort feature.

Vibratory Plates

Ammann Vibratory Plate Compactors are ready for any situation. The product line ranges from a light 54 kg to a much heavier 825 kg – with many models in between.

All Ammann plates are easy to operate. Many are available with diesel or petrol engines. When it comes to production, some of these machines move as quickly as soil compactors.

The vibratory plates have different exciter systems but a common thread runs through all: easy operator control. That includes when changing directions or working on steep grades.

The standard guide handle is isolated from vibration to reduce stress on the operator. It also is foldable and removable, a crucial feature when working in confined areas or during transport. A patented low-vibration guide handle that reduces vibration even further is optional on some machines.

Ammann Vibratory Plate Compactors come in three categories:

APF Series: Forward-moving vibratory plates: APF products are the lightest of all Ammann plate compactors, with weights ranging from 54 kg to 110 kg. They’re available in a variety of sizes to fit the application and working space. The exciter system is easy to maintain and has a long life expectancy.

APR Series: Reversible vibratory plates: All APR machines vibrate with a twin-shaft exciter unit. The shaft positioning enables the operator to smoothly change directions (forward/reverse) or to effortlessly keep the machine working on a single, tough-to-compact area.

APR machines outshine the competition with their great climbing ability, overcoming grades between 30 per cent and 35 per cent, depending on the model.

APH Series: Fully hydrostatic reversible vibratory plates: Ammann developed a triple-shaft exciter system for its APH products, the largest system offered. This makes the machines easier to operate while increasing the power and compaction forces.

The system keeps plate movement consistent, which in turn enables smooth travel – even through heavy, cohesive soils – and helps effortlessly overcome steep grades. APH machines even can climb while backfilling saturated areas – work that can leave competitive products at a standstill.

Walk-Behind Rollers

Ammann Walk-Behind Rollers combine two applications in a single machine. The operator chooses whether to utilise a high-amplitude setting for work on gravel/soil or a low-amplitude setting for asphalt and bituminous materials.

ARW rollers offer clearance on both drum sides, allowing compaction work extremely close to curbstones, retaining walls and other obstacles. The rollers are built without mechanical fast-wearing parts such as V belts and a clutch, helping reduce maintenance needs.

The ergonomic guide handle includes a safety feature that immediately shuts off the machine if the operator releases his or her grip. In reverse mode the roller’s speed limit is set to 2.5km per hour as a safety regulation to protect the operator.

The hydraulic drive ensures variable speed adjustment and smooth starting/braking action.

Trench Rollers

Rammax invented the trench roller product more than 40 years ago, and benchmarks have always been set to improve efficiencies. Today, Ammann is the only manufacturer to still offer both articulated and skid-steered trench rollers.

Trench rollers, also called multipurpose compactors, perform well in cohesive soil types, such as clays, that can be very difficult to compact.

The ARR 1575 and 1585 and Rammax 1585 are able to overcome the high moisture content in clays through their extreme compaction energy and the kneading effect of their padfoot drums. (The ARR 1575 is the articulated trench roller while the 1585 is the skid-steer body version.) The machines perform effectively and quickly on less challenging soils, too.

The infrared system is perfectly positioned with no dead angles. Integrated solar panels charge the transmitter.

Light Tandem Rollers

Ammann Light Tandem Rollers deliver compaction power in small packages. The weight of the light rollers ranges from 1475 kg to 4325 kg, while drum widths vary from 820 mm to 1380 mm.

The rollers are manoeuvrable and offer great visibility, making them ideal for work in tight areas. Ammann Light Tandem Rollers are designed and engineered for easy operation. That includes the location of controls, an easy-to-see operator display, drive levers, visibility and simple adjustment of amplitude and frequency.

Reduced vibration to the cab means less operator fatigue – and more force applied to the compaction target.
