Ammann vibratory plate compactors deliver results

Word has spread far and wide in Europe that vibratory plates from Ammann enjoy a good reputation in the construction and landscape gardening industry. They stand out first and foremost through their compaction performance and ease of use, even when operated by inexperienced users

New surface for the riding arena

This assignment was a matter of honour for master gardener and landscaper Peter Dörflinger, who is also a horse owner. The entire 2,000 m² surface area of the riding arena St. Mauritius in Renchen-Ulm (Baden) had to be completely renewed as it had aged considerably over the years and no longer offered ideal riding conditions. “This assignment was very close to our hearts as we own horses ourselves and are members of the local riding club. It also gave us an opportunity to demonstrate the performance of our three vibratory plates from Ammann,” says Peter Dörflinger.

The first step was to remove the entire area of the compacted topsoil and replace it with a new surface. The new water-permeable surface consists of a special blend of silica sand, fleece sections and fleece fibres. Because the surface is water-permeable and elastic, it will not become compacted so quickly; the mix also provides optimum cushioning for the horses.

Peter Dörflinger banked on his vibratory plates for the compaction work, even though he could have used larger compaction machinery to do the job. “We made a conscious decision to use the APF 1250, APR 2620 and APR 3520 as numerous volunteers had offered in advance to help with the work. In addition, the three vibratory plates are from our own machine pool and therefore represented a cost-effective solution. At least three volunteers turned up every day to help with the compaction work. Although they had no experience of working with vibratory plates, they were soon able to operate them successfully after a period of brief instruction.”

The assignment was completed successfully after 14 days and everyone involved was very pleased with the result. The riding arena with its new, elastic surface is now once again in operation.
