Eurovia Contracting South’s CCTV division will install a new high-tech digital system across Dover, Deal and Sandwich after being awarded a £280,000 contract that will also improve public access Wi-Fi.

The existing system and current CCTV control room will be significantly upgraded, after Dover District Council appointed Eurovia Contracting South as the contractor to upgrade the camera network, which will play a key role in preventing crime, monitoring local traffic and keeping people safe in town centres.

The replacement of the outdated analogue camera system with a new wireless system will also offer enhanced digital picture quality and data storage.

It is the latest CCTV scheme for Contracting South’s CCTV division, which was recently awarded the £1.6 million contract for the relocation of Stevenage Borough Council’s CCTV Control Room.

Phil Skegg, Managing Director – Eurovia Contracting, said: “I am pleased that we have secured another significant contract with Dover District Council and we look forward to working alongside them as we continue to grow in the security and surveillance sector.”

Councillor MJ Holloway, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “We’re committed to investing in our town centres so that they remain the focus of community life where people feel safe and comfortable to shop and enjoy their leisure time.

“We’re also looking to the future and seeing how we can use new technology to meet the challenges of our changing shopping habits. Moving to a digitally based CCTV system is the first step on our journey to connect all our town centres with public access Wi-Fi, connecting shoppers with ‘Click and Collect’ and opening up the district to the thousands of tourists who flock here each year, many of whom now use tablets and smart phones to go online to explore the destination and find local attractions and restaurants.”

The scheme will be completed by the end of the year.
