JPG creates full-time BIM role to fast track technology

Leeds based JPG Group has created a dedicated role to ensure a fast track compliance and company-wide operation in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 in just twelve months.

BIM is a revolutionary 3D model based digital process that gives the construction industry the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure.

JPG’s Civil and Structural Engineer, Tom White, who has a Master’s Degree in BIM, is leading a dedicated strategy alongside IT expert Kyle Knox to ensure that all 50 staff members are fully aligned in using BIM consistently and effectively. The immediate goal is to gain recognition in the industry through BIM Level 2 accreditation.

He said, “BIM is changing our industry by way of ‘information modelling’ that can be used, analysed and shared throughout the life cycle of a project. Whilst we have been using BIM standards for many years, we are now taking a more strategic overview to become fully digital and achieve seamless collaboration between our teams in structures, infrastructure, geo-environmental and strategic land.”

Tom has instigated a programme of continuous training and skills development across the team that also embraces cultural change and is recording BIM maturity with the business.

Chris Harding, Managing Director at JPG Group, said, “As we align ourselves as more strategic advisors on whole site potential it is imperative that we are embracing BIM technologies to the highest potential so that we are working as one with clients to deliver better structures with a stronger bottom line.”
