Leica Geosystems BLK247 wins Security Industry Association Best New Product Award

Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, announced its 3D surveillance product, the Leica BLK247, won the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) 2020 Best New Product Award.

The BLK247 was demonstrated as part of SIA’s annual New Product Showcase Awards competition held at this year’s virtual ISC West tradeshow.

Since its inception in 1979, the SIA New Product Showcase has been the security industry’s premier product awards programme. New products are reviewed by a panel of judges with extensive industry experience, and in 2020, following significant deliberations, the 30 judges presented awards for technologies covering 23 product and service categories. The BLK247 was selected for its innovative sensor-merging design and use of edge computing to bring a new level of technology to the security industry.

“We’re proud of the development efforts that led to the BLK247 being the industry’s first 3D reality capture sensor for surveillance,” said Carl-Thomas Schneider, vice president of business development at Hexagon’s Geosystems division. “Now, earning the 2020 SIA Best New Product Award from such a prestigious association and panel of expert judges provides further validation of our commitment to create safer and more secure spaces worldwide.”

Continuous Monitoring and Protection

The Leica BLK247 is a first-of-its-kind 3D reality capture sensor for surveillance. It offers continuous 24/7 monitoring of spaces in structures, such as public and private buildings, transportation infrastructure, and multi-use facilities.

The sensor also detects changes by using LiDAR, 3D digital fencing that creates digital barriers around a space, and continuous scanning. Designed for real-time 3D surveillance and analysis, the BLK247 is capable of differentiating between still and moving objects and is ideal for locations that must be continuously monitored and protected.
