CIRIA releases retrofitting building gas protection guidance

CIRIA is delighted to announce the hotly anticipated Retrofitting hazardous gas protection measures in existing or refurbished buildings (C795) guidance is now available to purchase.

This guidance document dispels the myth of demolition being the only option for mitigating ground gas ingress into existing UK properties.

The new guide places a focus on retrofitting ground gas protection measures in existing buildings where these measures were absent, inadequate or faulty, as well as buildings subject to extension or refurbishment.

Join the authors and receive an overview in a launch webinar on Thursday 14 January 2021.

To compliment the guide, CIRIA is also offering a new CPD training course to ensure consultants, contractors and regulators understand the process of retrofitting gas protection measures in existing buildings.

The retrofitting ground gas guide and training will prove invaluable to consultants, contractors, clients, civil engineers, ground engineers, contaminated land officers, environmental regulators, local authorities, housing associations, health & safety officers, project managers, asset managers, advisors and The Coal Authority.

The authors who collaborated to produce this guidance agree that it provides important support for the industry for years to come.

Steve Wilson, co-author of CIRIA guide, Technical Director, EPG and CIRIA trainer commented: The scope of BS8485 is clear that it does not apply to retrofitting gas protection to existing buildings. Each case of retrofitting is a unique situation and requires site specific assessment and design. There has been little guidance up until now that specifically covers all gases and all potential methods of remediation. This report is a welcome addition to the raft of useful and practical guidance on ground gas that has been produced by CIRIA over the past 27 years.

Order your copy of Retrofitting hazardous gas protection measures in existing or refurbished buildings (C795) and book onto the newly launched CPD training by visiting the CIRIA website.
