Small to medium-sized construction sites in inner-city areas are often characterised by challenging situations when it comes to obstacles and offloading material.

The new W 100 Fi F-series compact milling machine was the perfect choice for the rehabilitation of a cycleway with a width of almost 2 m near the city of Aachen. It took only two passes with the 1 m milling drum to remove the entire asphalt package.

With this outstanding performance, this model from the latest generation of milling machines lived up to its top-ranking position in the compact class.

Wirtgen compact milling machines are true key players on the construction site

A perfect overview of the area in front of the milling drum unit enables close navigation up to and around objects built into the surface to be milled and precisely flush milling up to the edges of unpaved verges.

With the milling drum at the rear of the machine, the operator was able to easily and precisely position the start of each cut. The laterally adjustable operator’s platform and the movable roof enabled the machine to be navigated particularly closely and safely up to and past lamp posts.

The discharge conveyor with a large slewing angle of 65 degrees to each side made offloading between lamp posts and wayside bays much easier. A real benefit for material transport logistics: material loading in the direction of travel.

Outstanding fuel economy, thanks to a new John Deere engine

The close collaboration with John Deere enabled the first custom modification of an engine specifically for use in a road milling machine.

The six-cylinder in-line engine runs in an extended speed range and develops its highest output with gradually increasing torque. All-in-all, this guarantees lower fuel consumption and fast, productive work, even at maximum milling depths.

Mill Assist increases productivity

In automatic mode, the innovative Mill Assist machine control system always selects the operating strategy with the best balance between performance and costs. In doing so, the process optimization automatically adjusts the engine and milling drum speeds, the travel drive, the water spraying system, and the machine’s advance speed.

By pre-selecting the ECO operating strategy, the operator was able to concentrate entirely on the working environment, steering the machine and offloading the milled material – all of which led to an improvement of the overall performance.

The semi-automatic slewing angle control of the discharge conveyor also helped by reliably aligning the discharge conveyor in the direction of the transport vehicle when the milling machine had to steer around obstacles in its path.

Easy transportation – good service and maintenance access

In addition to its outstanding on-site capabilities, the high-performance compact milling machine also offers the benefits of uncomplicated transportability and good service and maintenance access. All service and maintenance points are conveniently accessible from the ground, and the new, ergonomically-designed access ladder considerably increases operator-comfort.

In a nutshell: The new, W 100 Fi F-series compact milling machine is a real powerhouse on every construction site.
