Illuminating the Future and The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge

Illuminating the Future and The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge

The construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is a feat of modern engineering, highlighting China’s continuous advancements in infrastructure and urbanization.

Spanning the Pearl River Delta (PRD), this remarkable structure stands as a testament to human ingenuity and technological prowess, revolutionizing the connectivity between two major cities, Shenzhen and Zhongshan.

Key to this project’s success is the cutting-edge LED lighting technology provided by Sansi, which ensures not only visibility but also safety and aesthetic appeal.

A Gateway to Prosperity

Located approximately 27 km downriver from the Humen Bridge and 32 km north of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge will play a crucial role in enhancing the region’s transportation network.

Construction began in May 2017, with an expected completion date in 2024. Once operational, this 24 kilometre cross-sea highway is set to drastically reduce travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from two hours to just 25 minutes.

Engineering Marvels

So, what makes the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge so extraordinary?

This infrastructure project integrates a series of bridges, artificial islands, immersed tunnels, and underwater roads. The eastern section showcases an innovative construction technique, utilizing a steel-shell concrete immersed tube tunnel that passes beneath the third main shipping channel in the area.

At each end of this tunnel, artificial islands have been completed, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal. The western artificial island, shaped like a diamond and resembling a “kite on the sea,” and the eastern island, covering an area equivalent to 48 standard football fields, are strategic hubs connecting the tunnel to multiple land highways.

The Longest and Widest Tunnel

One of the standout features of this project is the immersed tube tunnel. Spanning 6,845 meters with eight lanes in both directions, it is the longest and widest steel-shell concrete connection in the world.

This tunnel is not just an engineering marvel but also a showcase of Sansi’s innovative LED lighting solutions.

Sansi LED has installed smart, adjustable, full-colour landscape light strips on both sides of the tunnel. These lights can change colours according to ambient temperature and traffic conditions. In emergencies, the light strips display red, yellow, and green segments from near to far, effectively guiding evacuation. Sansi’s intelligent software control system ensures that these lights can accurately locate fire-proof doors for swift and orderly evacuation.
