Tadano AC 7.450-1 Crane The Ultimate Powerhouse for Precision Lifts
When precision, power, and reliability converge, extraordinary feats become possible. This was vividly demonstrated when the Tadano AC 7.450-1 crane tackled an extreme lifting operation at the PSA-Stellantis automotive manufacturing plant in Charleville, France.
In a seamless collaboration, Foselev Ardennes relied on this high-performance all-terrain crane to execute a demanding lift with unmatched efficiency and accuracy.
A Herculean Lift with Sophisticated Equipment
Hoisting a 2.3-tonne air handling unit to a height of 30 metres, across a sprawling 90-metre radius, isn’t a task for the faint-hearted—or subpar machinery. For Christophe Blanchard, seasoned project manager at Foselev Ardennes, the Tadano AC 7.450-1 was the obvious choice. Its compact design, coupled with advanced technology, enabled the crew to navigate tight site constraints while performing this high-stakes operation.
“It’s not just about raw lifting power,” Blanchard explained. “Precision and efficiency are equally vital, and the AC 7.450-1 delivers both in spades.”
Advanced Features for Complex Terrains
The site’s cramped conditions might have stymied lesser cranes, but the AC 7.450-1 turned adversity into advantage. The crane’s Surround View camera system provided operators with a comprehensive, computer-assisted overview of outrigger extension and slewing radii.
Crane operator Willy Baumann remarked: “This system saves precious time by eliminating the need for exhaustive manual measurements. We were up and running faster than ever.”
During the actual lift, obstacles such as lamp posts and trees tested the crane’s mettle. However, the IC-1 Plus crane control system, with its built-in working range limiter, proved invaluable in maintaining smooth operation. Baumann also leveraged the remote control system to manoeuvre the load over obstructions, enabling precise placement on the factory roof.
Rapid Setup, Rapid Results
Time was a critical factor in this operation, and the AC 7.450-1’s transport-optimised design made all the difference. Within a single day, the Foselev crew had the crane rigged, including its Sideways Superlift (SSL) system.
Michael Mathieu, Branch Manager at Foselev Charleville-Mézières, noted: “Its proximity to our branch and transport-friendly features meant the crane arrived on-site in just 20 minutes. In total, we needed only 10 truck runs to transport all the equipment.”
Despite the complexity of the lift, Foselev completed the task without causing significant disruption to factory operations. Over three days, the team dismantled the old air handling unit and installed the new one, staying true to the schedule.
Blanchard highlighted: “This success was a testament to the synergy between our experienced team and the exceptional capabilities of the AC 7.450-1.”
The Technical Marvel of the AC 7.450-1
To meet the unique demands of this project, the Tadano AC 7.450-1 was configured with:
- 44-metre main boom
- 75-metre luffing jib
- Sideways Superlift (SSL) system
- XL counterweight adapter frame
The XL adapter extended the counterweight tail swing radius, significantly enhancing lifting capacity. Meanwhile, the SSL system, equipped with a transport cradle and self-rigging capability, underscored Tadano’s emphasis on efficiency and safety during setup.
Tadano prioritises operator safety and usability. Features like fall protection systems, access ladders, and assembly platforms simplify rigging and reduce risks. These innovations ensure operators can work confidently, even on challenging sites.
European Excellence Meets Japanese Precision
The Tadano Group’s European operations, including Tadano Faun GmbH in Lauf and Tadano Demag GmbH in Zweibrücken, represent a fusion of German engineering and Japanese quality standards.
