Balfour Beatty Accelerates $70m Special Projects Across Florida

Balfour Beatty has secured an impressive portfolio of special project works totalling over $70 million (£55 million) across Central and South Florida. This significant undertaking highlights the company’s steadfast commitment to delivering niche, fast-paced projects in sectors like aviation, entertainment, mixed-use retail, and adaptive reuse.

Since the beginning of the year, Balfour Beatty’s Florida Buildings operations have been awarded more than 13 special projects, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted partner for innovative, client-focused construction solutions.

These projects not only underscore the company’s expanding footprint in Florida but also reflect its strategic alignment with high-growth sectors driven by urban development and population increases.

Crooked Can Brewery’s Expansion in Minneola

One of the standout projects in the pipeline is the construction of a 40,000-square-foot brewery for Crooked Can Brewery. Located in Minneola, this facility will enhance the brewery’s capacity and contribute to the local economy.

Construction is set to kick off in early 2025, with completion anticipated by spring 2026.

Revitalising Minnesota Row Business Center

In Winter Park, Balfour Beatty is spearheading the adaptive reuse of Asana Partners’ Minnesota Row Business Center. This ambitious project transforms a six-building complex into a dynamic mixed-use space, blending office, retail, and hospitality.

Already underway, the project is expected to wrap up by spring 2026, promising a fresh hub for community and commerce.

Enhancing Emergency Services in Osceola County

The company’s commitment to community well-being is evident in its public/civic projects. Recently completed, Osceola County’s Fire Station 85 is a 12,290-square-foot facility in Kissimmee designed to bolster emergency response capabilities.

Meanwhile, construction of Fire Station 83, the 17th station in the county, is progressing smoothly and is scheduled for completion by summer 2025. This innovative prototype design further underscores Balfour Beatty’s dedication to supporting vital infrastructure.

Diplomat Beach Resort Renovations

Phase one of renovations at the Diplomat Beach Resort showcases Balfour Beatty’s expertise in enhancing luxury destinations.

The project involves upgrades to 33,328 square feet of the resort, including its porte cochère drop-off, hotel lobby, and pool deck—an effort that promises to elevate guest experiences.

JW Marriott Grand Lake Orlando Resort Upgrades

In Hollywood, renovations at the JW Marriott Grand Lake Orlando Resort are in full swing.

Balfour Beatty is carefully executing improvements to the 197,000-square-foot meeting space while ensuring the facility remains operational, demonstrating the team’s skill in delivering complex projects with minimal disruption.

United Airlines Facility Enhancements

Balfour Beatty’s collaboration with United Airlines exemplifies its ability to handle diverse challenges.

From renovating employee breakrooms to addressing critical maintenance needs in the airline’s 60-foot-tall South Hangar in Orlando, the company has delivered seamless solutions that meet exacting industry standards.

Mixed-Use Space Development in Miami

Another notable project is the completion of a mixed-use retail space adjacent to Florida International University’s Sweetwater campus in Miami.

This project, developed in partnership with Toll Brothers Apartment Living and Lapis Retail Landlord, aims to enhance the student experience with convenient access to retail and residential facilities.

A Legacy of Excellence and Innovation

Balfour Beatty’s enduring presence in Florida, established in 1933, is built on a foundation of trust, innovation, and strategic foresight. Its operations focus on high-growth regions like Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay, aligning with the company’s broader national strategy. By investing in specialised projects, Balfour Beatty continues to diversify its portfolio and strengthen its impact across the U.S.
