Kapsch TrafficCom Secures Tolling Contract in Norway
Kapsch TrafficCom has clinched a significant tolling contract in Norway, marking another milestone in the company’s global expansion.
Awarded by Vegfinans AS—the largest toll charger in Norway in terms of road project financing—the framework agreement is set to modernise and expand tolling infrastructure across six counties in the southeast of the country.
The four-year framework contract, valued at approximately EUR 7.5 million, has the potential to exceed a low double-digit million amount. This agreement will see Kapsch TrafficCom implement its cutting-edge Autopass Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system, enhancing both brownfield (existing toll sites) and greenfield (newly tolled roads) projects.
Strengthening Collaboration for Advanced Tolling
Vegfinans AS Operations Manager, Dan Isak Kveta, expressed confidence in the partnership: “We look forward to developing a strong collaboration with Kapsch. Together, we will meet new operational requirements and ensure continuous development. We are confident that our new supplier will be a good partner who delivers quality and reliability, which will strengthen our common goal of accurate and secure toll collection.”
The deployment will span Akershus, Buskerud, Innlandet, Telemark, Vestfold, and Østfold, covering both highways and smaller urban centres. This initiative will not only improve tolling efficiency but also contribute to Norway’s sustainability goals, optimising traffic management while ensuring secure and reliable toll collection.
Why Kapsch TrafficCom Stood Out in the Bidding Process
Competition for the contract was fierce, with six companies vying for the opportunity. However, Kapsch TrafficCom distinguished itself by excelling in system quality and environmental responsibility, securing full points in both categories.
The company’s commitment to sustainability was a key differentiator. By selecting eco-friendly materials, employing efficient maintenance strategies, and optimising logistics for delivery, Kapsch demonstrated a forward-thinking approach. Additionally, their emphasis on hardware repair and recycling aligns with Norway’s green mobility objectives.
Carolin Treichl, EVP EMENA at Kapsch TrafficCom, highlighted the significance of the contract: “We are proud to have been awarded to play a key role in advancing Norway’s tolling infrastructure together with Vegfinans. This is a significant step forward for both Kapsch TrafficCom and Vegfinans as we continue our commitment to climate-conscious technology and efficient transportation solutions.”
Transforming Tolling With Innovation
At the heart of this project is Kapsch TrafficCom’s MLFF tolling system, which enables seamless, barrier-free toll collection. Unlike traditional toll booths, MLFF uses sophisticated sensors and cameras to automatically identify vehicles, eliminating the need for drivers to stop. This reduces congestion, lowers emissions, and enhances the overall commuting experience.
Norway, a global leader in green transport initiatives, has long been at the forefront of sustainable road infrastructure. By upgrading toll systems with energy-efficient and environmentally responsible technologies, this project aligns with the nation’s broader strategy for smart mobility and emissions reduction.
A Global Leader in Sustainable Mobility
With a footprint spanning over 50 countries, Kapsch TrafficCom has cemented itself as a global leader in intelligent transportation systems.
The company specialises in:

A Win for Norway’s Road Network
