The construction industry is constantly evolving, with safety and efficiency taking centre stage. Force One, a leader in excavation solutions, has reinforced its commitment to operational excellence by integrating Xwatch Safety Solutions‘ XW4 height and slew system into their Brokk 520D machine. This move highlights their dedication to pioneering safety and innovation.

Brokk machines, originally designed for demolition, are fully remote-controlled, significantly reducing risks associated with human-machine interaction. The seamless integration of the Xwatch system into the Brokk 520D showcases the system’s adaptability and advanced safety technology.

Force One has further enhanced the machine’s capabilities by modifying it to work alongside their vacuum trucks, enabling material extraction in areas inaccessible to larger equipment. This transformation extends their operational reach, ensuring they can tackle even the most complex excavation challenges with precision.

The Brokk 520D A Compact Powerhouse

Running on diesel, the Brokk 520D is one of the most environmentally conscious demolition machines available. When Force One encounters confined spaces beyond the reach of their RSP suction excavator trucks, this machine becomes the go-to solution.

Equipped with an extension attachment that connects directly to the suction excavator, the Brokk 520D allows the host excavator’s powerful vacuum system to extract materials while it manoeuvres effortlessly in tight quarters. With its remote nozzle attachment, it offers a highly efficient and controlled excavation method. Force One’s range of remote nozzles can excavate at distances of up to 150 metres, providing remarkable flexibility.

Overcoming Installation Challenges

Xwatch engineer Adam Guilfoyle was responsible for installing the Xwatch XW4 system on the Brokk machine, a task that presented unique challenges. With the machine sitting just six inches off the ground, Adam had to devise innovative methods to access the chassis for the slew installation. He also designed a bespoke motion control box to integrate seamlessly with the Brokk’s remote-controlled functionality.

Reflecting on the project, Adam commented: “All joking apart, for a small machine, everything on it is really accessible. The installation was very successful. As engineers, we always enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to provide bespoke solutions.”

Enhancing Precision and Control

The Xwatch XW4 system boosts safety and control by monitoring and restricting height and slew movement. In confined and high-risk environments, this precision is crucial.

The system is a highly versatile safety solution, enhancing control and accuracy across a range of construction machinery. Its cutting-edge technology ensures seamless integration, optimising performance while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Commitment to Safety and Reliability

Declan Burke, Managing Director of Force One, reinforced the company’s focus on safety: “Safety is always at the top of our list, and Xwatch has proven to be the most reliable and user-friendly system in the civil sector. We’ve seamlessly transitioned all our civil safety systems to Xwatch because of its precision, ease of use, and reliability. Knowing we have a system that integrates so well with our operations gives us complete confidence in maintaining safety and efficiency, no matter the job’s complexity.”

Jemma Dycer-Hopkins, Sales and Operations Manager at Xwatch Safety Solutions, added: “The integration of Xwatch with remote-controlled machinery like the Brokk 520D is a great example of our systems’ adaptability. Force One’s approach to safety and efficiency aligns perfectly with what we do at Xwatch—delivering user-friendly, reliable solutions that enhance site safety without compromising productivity. Seeing our technology’s role in such innovative applications is fantastic.”
