Commissioned by the country’s National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), the supervision contract is the latest milestone in a broader public-private push to breathe new life into Colombia’s freight and transport networks.

Stretching across five departments – Caldas, Antioquia, Santander, Norte de Santander, and Cesar – the La Dorada-Chiriguaná line is more than a ribbon of track. It forms a critical spine connecting Colombia’s interior to global shipping gateways.

Awarded for COP2.27 trillion (approximately USD567 million) to the consortium Estructura Plural Línea Férrea, the PPP agreement is poised to reshape freight transport in the country. The corridor will become a key conduit for moving raw materials, agricultural products, and manufactured goods more efficiently, relieving pressure from overburdened road systems.

This strategic upgrade is expected to:

  • Create nearly 32,000 direct and indirect jobs
