Samsara Reimagining Fleet Intelligence for a Complex World

Samsara Reimagining Fleet Intelligence for a Complex World

Samsara Reimagining Fleet Intelligence for a Complex World

Samsara has raised the bar once again at Go Beyond London 2025, unveiling a suite of innovations designed to transform compliance, safety, navigation, and workforce protection for commercial fleets across Europe and North America. With Smart Compliance, Weather Intelligence, the Samsara Avatar, and a strategic partnership with AUMOVIO’s VDO, the company is positioning itself firmly at the centre of connected operations as regulatory pressure tightens and safety expectations rise.

Alongside these European advances, Samsara also introduced Commercial Navigation for the United States, bringing a fully integrated, commercial-vehicle-specific routing solution that addresses long-standing challenges around bridge strikes, hazmat restrictions, and Hours of Service compliance.

The combined effect is a significant leap forward in how fleets manage risk, stay compliant, and protect drivers on increasingly complex roads.

A Unified Approach To Tachograph Management

Tachograph offences consistently sit near the top of DVSA violation statistics, contributing to almost half of all HGV-related breaches. Fines for individual drivers can reach £300 per offence, while operators face penalties of up to £5,000, suspension, or in the most severe cases, criminal consequences. Compounding the issue is Europe’s strict 21-day rectification window, placing pressure on managers to investigate and resolve infringements quickly.

Historically, fleets have depended on a patchwork of tools for tachograph downloads, infringement reporting, and telematics. Multi-country operators have had to juggle different rulesets across borders, increasing complexity and administrative strain.

Samsara’s Smart Compliance directly addresses this fragmentation. Powered by VDO’s established infringement rulesets, the integrated solution allows managers to handle every stage of the compliance lifecycle within one platform. This includes:

  • Automated infringement analysis covering 17 European countries.
  • A Compliance Inbox to review and resolve cases.
  • Driver Debrief workflows within the Samsara Driver App.

A standout innovation is real-time driver alerts, triggered when approaching critical regulatory thresholds. For example, when nearing the 4-hour-and-30-minute continuous driving limit, the system proactively warns drivers to stop before an infringement occurs.

Simon Colderley, Transport Manager at Fox Brothers, noted the strategic impact: “Samsara’s Smart Compliance isn’t just about streamlining today’s tachograph admin; it’s about building the fleet of tomorrow. By unifying VDO’s deep infringement intelligence with real-time alerts on one platform, we hope to transform compliance from a reactive burden into a strategic, proactive asset. This is the future—embedding live intelligence directly into our operations to build a safer, more efficient, and truly future-proofed business.”

Expanding Capabilities Into 2026

Samsara plans to strengthen the system further over the next 18 months. Upcoming features include:

  • Multi-ruleset support for fleets operating across different European jurisdictions.
  • Smart Compliance Programmes with automated routing and SLA tracking.
  • Advanced analytics and reporting tools.
  • Audit-ready export functions.
  • Qualification for DVSA Earned Recognition status.

By 2026, coverage will expand to 21 countries, adding Belgium, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, and enhanced support for Spain.

Strengthening Regulatory Confidence

AUMOVIO’s VDO brand is the most established tachograph manufacturer in Europe, with decades of regulatory expertise. Its partnership with Samsara ensures Smart Compliance benefits from recognised and trusted infringement rules.

Volkmar Knaup, Head of Services Europe for AUMOVIO’s Commercial and Special Vehicles segment, emphasised the value of this collaboration: “For decades, VDO has been trusted by fleets across Europe to provide reliable tachograph technology, and compliance expertise. By working with Samsara, we are bringing that credibility into a connected platform that helps customers not only meet regulations, but manage them more efficiently. Together, we can give fleets the tools to reduce risk, support their drivers, and focus more on running their business.”

This partnership creates a compliance ecosystem that combines high-fidelity rulesets with Samsara’s telematics network and safety infrastructure, giving European fleets a more coherent oversight model than ever before.

Real-Time Insight Into Road Risks

Extreme weather remains a stubborn threat to fleet safety, with rain, snow, high winds, and ice contributing to avoidable accidents and disruption. As climate volatility increases across Europe, the availability of precise, real-time environmental data is becoming vital.

Samsara’s Weather Intelligence gives fleets dashboard-level visibility into live and forecasted conditions, showing which drivers and vehicles are likely to be affected. Overlays include storm probability, rainfall and snowfall intensity, wind speeds, and temperature fluctuations.

Drivers also receive customisable alerts through in-cab audio and the Driver App, helping them adapt quickly when hazards escalate.

A notable feature is StreetSense, which allows fleets to view ground-level conditions even in areas where they have no vehicles. This is made possible by the scale of the Samsara Network, combining camera imagery and sensor data from millions of connected devices.

Ryan Yu, Vice President, Products at Samsara, remarked: “With these new capabilities, we are solving two problems that every fleet leader talks to us about: staying compliant, and keeping drivers safe on the road. Our work with VDO means customers can finally manage compliance across Europe in one place, with confidence. And with Weather Intelligence, we are giving drivers and managers the visibility they need to make safer decisions in tough conditions.”

Scaling AI-Driven Driver Coaching

Samsara Avatar introduces a distinct approach to training by allowing fleets to integrate real team members into AI-generated coaching videos. The aim is to deliver personalised, recognisable, and consistent training directly through the Samsara Driver App.

By blending synthetic intelligence with authentic human likeness, fleets can scale driver engagement programmes without expanding training teams or compromising quality.

This capability complements Samsara’s broader AI-powered coaching initiative, which automates feedback for at-risk behaviours and rewards safe performance.

AI-Powered Automated Coaching And Worker Safety

Samsara’s Automated Coaching tools automatically detect and analyse high-risk events, triggering relevant feedback in real time. Depending on severity, interventions can include in-cab alerts, app-based guidance, or follow-up coaching sessions.

This approach reduces manual review time and helps managers concentrate efforts on drivers who need the most support.

Protecting Workers Inside And Outside The Cab

Samsara’s Worker Safety suite is integrated into the Driver App, supporting roadside teams, maintenance personnel, and other frontline workers. Features include:

  • One-Click SOS: Instant alerts in an emergency.
  • Fast Response: Automatic identification of the closest colleague and contextual information.
  • Proactive Check-ins: Ideal for night work or hazardous conditions.

These tools extend the protective reach of fleet technology beyond the vehicle itself.

Reducing Administrative Burden

Certification management is a persistent challenge for fleets with high turnover or specialised operations. Missing or expired qualifications expose operators to legal liability, fines, and operational downtime.

Samsara’s new Qualifications Management solution automates this process, supporting both driver credentials and vehicle certification timelines. AI-powered reminders, documentation capture, and centralised dashboards minimise administrative strain and help avoid costly oversights.

Commercial Navigation In The United States

Samsara’s Commercial Navigation solution, launched in the US, brings turn-by-turn routing designed specifically for HGVs and regulated vehicles. Unlike consumer apps, it accounts for height, weight, and hazmat restrictions, as well as live traffic conditions.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, around 15,000 bridge strikes occur annually, often due to drivers following non-compliant GPS apps. Samsara’s integrated approach helps avoid these costly incidents.

Its key differentiators include:

  • HOS Overlay: Hours of Service visualisation directly on the map.
  • Integrated Platform: Dispatcher route updates appear instantly in the Driver App.
  • High Configurability: Multi-language and multi-OS support across varied fleet sizes.

Melissa Dockery, Operations and Asset Manager at TP Trucking & Logistics, praised the tool’s impact: “Samsara’s Commercial Navigation on the Driver App gives our drivers smarter routes that actually consider truck restrictions and real-time conditions. It helps us avoid delays, reduce driver stress on the road, and improve efficiency and driver satisfaction.”

Strengthening Global Operations

Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform supports tens of thousands of organisations across North America and Europe, spanning construction, freight, utilities, public sector operations, field services, food logistics, and manufacturing.

Its mission remains clear: to increase the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operations that keep the global economy moving.

Moving Towards Safer, Smarter, More Connected Fleets

Samsara’s innovations unveiled at Go Beyond London 2025 reflect a decisive shift toward intelligent, integrated fleet operations.

By combining real-time weather intelligence, AI coaching, comprehensive compliance tools, and next-generation navigation, the company is building a connected ecosystem designed for the future of transport.
