The A404 in Buckinghamshire has reopened by Highways England in both directions between the Bisham and Westhorpe interchanges near Marlow following a bridge installation project.

The closure, part of a scheme to refurbish the Volvo footbridge over the A404, was needed to allow the re-installation of the bridge and the work to install the bridge was completed in record time.

The road was reopened some 14 hours ahead of schedule. Both lanes were opened northbound, and one lane southbound, with southbound lane 2 being reopened in the evening.

The structure installation was undertaken using mobile cranes on the A404 to lift the deck, columns and staircases from flatbed lorries back into position.

The bridge was removed earlier in the year to an offsite location and refurbished for repainting.

The work was carefully planned and agreed with Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council.
