Sandvik Pioneers Sustainable Crushing with Electric Crushers and Screens

Sandvik Mobile Crushing and Screening has taken a bold step towards a greener future with the launch of its latest fully electric tracked crushing and screening train.

This new development not only reduces the environmental impact of crushing operations but also enhances productivity and fuel efficiency—making it a game-changer for the industry.

Electric-Powered Efficiency

At the forefront of this innovation is the QH443E, Sandvik’s latest Q-Range electric-driven cone plant. Designed to bridge the gap between tracked mobile, wheeled portable, and stationary plants, this model integrates electric drives with track mobility for unmatched versatility.

Featuring an updated tracked platform with a diesel/electric generator-based drivetrain, the QH443E also boasts Sandvik’s Optik™ automation system, My Fleet remote monitoring, and the renowned CH440 Hydrocone crusher.

Key features of the QH443E:

  • Hydroset CSS regulation and protection system for optimal production control.
  • CLP (Constant Liner Performance) technology, which monitors liner wear to maintain consistent performance.
  • Multiple chamber, throw, and setting configurations to fine-tune specifications for various applications.
  • Up to 25% fuel savings and 78% reduction in oil usage compared to previous models.

By combining electric drive technology with the flexibility of track mobility, the QH443E is an ideal solution for secondary and tertiary crushing in quarries, mining operations, and aggregate production.

Completing the Electric Train

The QH443E completes Sandvik’s pioneering electric train, which also includes:

  • UJ443E fully electric jaw crusher – launched in 2023.
  • QA452e hybrid triple-deck Doublescreen – introduced in 2022.

The UJ443E is built on a fully electric track platform and incorporates the CJ412 jaw crusher, renowned for its robust design and high throughput capabilities. Compared to its predecessors, it delivers:

  • Up to 25% lower fuel consumption.
  • 30% increase in throughput.
  • 91% reduction in hydraulic oil usage.

Meanwhile, the QA452e Doublescreen sets new standards in screening efficiency. Its hybrid “e” drive system allows operators to choose the most economical and sustainable energy source, while outperforming traditional screens by up to 30%.

The Future of Electric Crushing and Screening

Both the UJ443E and QH443E come with onboard gensets and fully electric-driven components, allowing them to run via an external power supply or the onboard genset using HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) or diesel.

Advantages of external grid connection:

  • Significantly lower operational costs.
  • Longer service intervals for the drivetrain.
  • Reduced refuelling time and minimal onsite emissions.
  • Lower noise levels for improved working conditions.

Additionally, the alternator is optimally sized, allowing downstream screening plants to run off the onboard genset, reducing fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to running separate units.

A Game-Changer for Large-Scale Operations

“Sandvik Mobiles has always been at the forefront of innovation, and completing the development of our tracked electric train marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and cost-effective future for the crushing and screening industry,” said Manny Maloney, President of Sandvik Mobile Crushing and Screening Division.

He further added: “This is just the beginning of our commitment to developing solutions that improve productivity, safety, and sustainability. These technologies are particularly suited for large quarries and mining operations, where uptime and environmental responsibility are critical.”

Global Rollout

Both the UJ443E and QA452e are currently available for order through Sandvik’s global network of distributors.

The QH443E will be available in Europe from mid-March 2025, followed by a global launch later in the year.

The Future is Electric

With this latest innovation, Sandvik is not just responding to industry demands for sustainability but actively shaping the future of crushing and screening technology.

By integrating electric mobility, automation, and advanced monitoring systems, the company is setting new benchmarks for efficiency, cost savings, and environmental responsibility.
