Strabag launches eCall automatic in-vehicle emergency call system in Luxembourg
STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions GmbH (SISS), a 100% subsidiary of STRABAG AG, has delivered its NGS3600 communication management system to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to provide eCall functionality to the country’s emergency and fire response services.
eCall: emergency call triggered automatically in case of accident
The eCall service is an automatic emergency call system for vehicles that sends an emergency call to the relevant public safety control centre when an in-vehicle sensor detects a serious collision.
The notification includes important information such as the vehicle’s location, the number of passengers and the type of fuel to enable the emergency service team to respond more efficiently. The system also establishes a voice connection with the vehicle to help the rescue organisations to better assess the situation. The eCall system will be required in all new passenger vehicles in the EU from the year 2018.
Luxembourg first EU member to receive eCall certification
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a project partner of the EU’s I_HeERO project aimed at the EU-wide implementation of eCall. The country has now completed the conformity assessment procedure overseen by certification authority NavCert to become the first eCall-certified EU member state. The public safety control centre “Central des Secours d’Urgence du 112” (CSU112) is already using the harmonised technology, which will become an obligation for the emergency service organisations throughout the EU in the future.
Seamless integration into emergency call systems
The eCall functionality is a functional module of the NGS3600 product suite which can be implemented with no interruption to the ongoing operations of a public safety answering point. The NGS3600 is an integrative system platform for the operation of emergency and conventional telephone calls, analogue radio channels, and digital voice groups and voice signals from a variety of different media.
The innovate media and services help to complement the “classic” information channels of the emergency call services, the fire, police and rescue radio communications, and other sources to provide quick and secure handling by the staff. The high degree of integration of these services into the NGS3600 makes it possible for the call operators to handle calls intuitively, quickly and securely.
Emergency call services in Hamburg and Stuttgart to follow
Also being readied for eCall are public safety answering points which have been or are in the process of being equipped by SISS, such as the fire response services in Hamburg and the integrated emergency response centre SIMOS in Stuttgart.
