Colas wins contract to build rail extension for Tramway of Rabat in Morocco

The Tramway Company of Rabat-Salé (STRS) has entrusted Colas Rail and GTR, a road subsidiary of Colas in Morocco with the construction of the extension of line 2 of the Rabat-Salé tramway.

The extension will serve the district of Yacoub Al Mansour on the Rabat side, and a new hospital on the Salé side.

The contract also includes construction of the tramway platforms, the laying of Railway signalling over a total length of 7 km, as well as the creation of additional storage in the Hay Karima depot.

The contract value is €29 million and work will begin in August 2017 for the commissioning of the extension of the line Planned for the second half of 2019.

The awarding of this new contract confirms the long-term presence of Colas Rail in Morocco working in partnership with their road subsidiaries.

Currently, as part of a design-build contract, they are installing the first high-speed rail line (HSL) Moroccan, which will connect Tangier to Kenitra.
