Downer secures A$71 million contract for Bruce Highway Upgrade in Australia
Downer has been awarded the seal and asphalt works package for the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway (CR2SM) project on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The project includes major interchange upgrades and expanding an eight kilometre stretch of the highway from four to six lanes, along with the construction of a service road for local traffic to the west of the highway.
Over 380,000 tonnes of asphalt will be supplied by Downer’s nearby Bli Bli facility, which will be paved by the time the project concludes in late 2020.
The contract, awarded by head contractor Fulton Hogan Seymour Whyte Joint Venture, will build on Downer’s strong history on the Sunshine Coast.
Evan Boone, General Manager – Queensland Surfacing at Downer, said: “The contract win is a testament to the experience and capabilities of Downer’s local crews and the modern high-capacity asphalt production facility at Bli Bli. These capabilities will enable Downer to meet the large production rates required by the customer, and to meet the high standards required by the Department of Transport and Main Roads in Queensland.”
This project will enable better access to the region and deliver significant benefits to the local community, including increased safety for road users and improved travel times while catering for future traffic growth.
