Dalian Zhoushuizi Airport in China has recorded significantly increased aircraft flights over the last few years due to a rapid growth in passenger and cargo volumes.

The local climate however presents the airport with many challenges, with long winters and icy temperatures, as well as sudden weather changes with both heavy and wet snowfall.

With strict Government regulations pushing Dalian airport to maintain flight movements, the airfield management took the most practical and workable option and decided to enlarge their winter maintenance fleet.

The Boschung Jetbroom solution

To cope with the challenging snow conditions at Dalian Airport, they decided to purchase a 10 additional Boschung Jetbroom snow sweeper blowers, which feature a compact chassis allowing safer operations and shorter convoys with higher operating speeds and performance. The snow blowing system, fitted both in front of and behind the brush enables optimal snow removal, while maintaining the widest working widths by keeping the brush angle as small as possible.

Due to the extreme ice challenges, Boschung proposed two SDA S5 de-icers, with a wide spaying width, high accuracy and homogenous spraying patterns to ensure the movement areas are cleared effectively. The local Boschung subsidiary in China also provides a guaranteed 24 hour, 7 day a week support and assistance.

This combination of high performance compact snow sweepers and the precise de-icer together with the already installed BOSCHUNG GFS 3000 ice early-warning system gives Dalian airport the ultimate flexibility to keep runways, taxiways and apron cleared and open while keeping costs down and damages to the environment minimized as less expensive de-icing chemicals is now needed.

Recent strong snowfalls at Dalian airport were handled successfully, minimising airport downtime and increasing customer satisfaction.

Mr. Jia Yongjie, Airfield Security Department at DalianZhoushuizi, Head of Ice and Snow Removal, said: “BOSCHUNG has been a long-time partner of Dalian airport for many years. Since 1997 we have been using its winter service products such as Jetbrooms, de-icers and ice early-warning systems.

“Based on these positive experiences as well as their qualified on-site maintenance service and reliable interaction of both mobile and stationary maintenance equipment, we have once again opted for BOSCHUNG.”
