MP Skills creates Stepping Stone to get quarries back to work safely
With the world starting to resume a certain degree some of normality, thoughts may be turning to how best to bring a workforce back from a prolonged period of absence quickly, as well as training solutions for newer members of staff.
If, like many, staff have been absent from site since the introduction of lockdown measures, the real challenge lies in helping to create the right mind-set for coming back into the workplace and indeed, into a new way of working. This is also true to of any newer team members coming into a business and ensuring their understanding of what is required to perform duties competently.

The package has been put together by MP Skills, to address the core basics of working safely within the extractives industry. The package also provides a firm foundation on which to build future learning and skills upon.
Specifically designed to ensure maximum engagement, the webinars and e-learning have been developed to provide all of the necessary information, delivered in short, snappy and easily digestible bite sized sessions. Shorter learning sessions also have a positive impact on site/staff planning as learners then spend less time away from daily site operations.
The package also gives site management peace of mind that having undertaken the training, employees are up to date with current information, rules and legislation associated with the extractives industry.
The combination of webinar and e-learning modules will provide the necessary platform in which to engage effectively with learners. It will enable delegates to think about the important role that they play in ensuring a productive, efficient but most importantly, a safe place of work, for both them and those around them.
Learners can expect to take part in 34 hours’ worth of webinars which include:
- Mineral Sector Safety Passport
- IOSH Working Safely
- Geotechnical Basics
- Manual Handling Awareness
- Quarry Regulations Basics
- Mental Health Awareness
As well as gaining access to a total 8 hours’ worth of e-learning modules which can be completed in an individual’s own time and in the space of six months from package purchase. Modules covered by e-learning incorporate:
- Industry Induction (4 modules)
- Isolation
- Workplace Transport and Pedestrian Interface (WTPI)
- Silica dust/noise/hazardous substances
- Plant Basics
In total the “Stepping Stone” package offers 42 hours’ worth of invaluable training, delivered by MP Skills Industry leading trainers, for a cost of only £595.00.
All 42 hours of the package can be attributed to an individual’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and a certificate of attendance/participation, will be issued upon completion for training records.
