John Holland is amongst the first construction companies in Australia to achieve the Kitemark certification for its Building Information Modelling (BIM) services.

The internationally accreditation solidifies John Holland as a tier one contractor and a leader in delivering end-to-end project solutions to a world-class standard.

Joe Barr, CEO, said prioritising advancements in the digital space, particularly regarding BIM, which is an intelligent 3D model-based process that provides efficiencies throughout the entire life cycle of a project, is the way forward for the company.

“This accreditation is a fantastic achievement for our digital engineering team who are always ahead of the curve when it comes to new technologies and how we can best implement these on our projects to achieve the best outcomes for our customer.

“The digital world is fast moving and constantly evolving and the role that digitisation has in project delivery has transformed from being a nice-to-have, we now find it’s often a contract requirement,” said Mr Barr.

Mike Roberts, Group Manager of Digital Engineering led the team throughout the accreditation process, maintaining that the Kitemark accreditation is a reflection of the company’s ability to embed digital process across its various projects. “We aren’t in the business of doing something because that’s how it has been done before. On each project, every day we are challenging ourselves to try new approaches, to try new technologies and to keep abreast of ways to constantly improving our delivery approach.

“The accreditation was attained after providing extensive documentation representative of how our teams implement BIM on our projects. We supplied information and use cases from three of John Holland’s major projects and numerous tenders. It was a team effort spanning several years to reach this point and we are extremely proud of the outcome.”

The British Standards Institution (BSI) awards Kitemark certification for BIM in design and construction, assessing a companies ability to meet the strict ISO 19650 standard for managing information over the whole life cycle of a built asset.

Chris Meehan, Chief Operating Officer at BSI, said: “The BSI Kitemark™ certification is the international benchmark for excellence in digital engineering and project delivery. John Holland have shown they are at the forefront of BIM, giving clients confidence and certainty that their deliveries and projects meet the highest of standards.”

John Holland’s nominated projects included the Perth’s Children’s Hospital, WestConnex Stage 3B, Melbourne Metro CYP, and various tenders, who all participated to help evidence the Company’s skills and excellent track record.
