COWI – Donaldson Associates win Hong Kong Airport contracts

Danish based engineering firm COWI and its new UK-based acquisition Donaldson Associates have won a series of contracts on the project to create a three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport.
“The early results of the collaboration between Donaldson tunnel staff in Hong Kong and COWI Marine are very positive as they allow us to widen our technical offers to our existing clients beyond the tunnelling skills that they know us for, and help us to push into the marine market,” says Andy Sloan, managing director, Donaldson Associates.

The marine elements of the project comprise deep cement mixing of contaminated mud pits along the existing seawall, 650ha of reclamation, various ground treatment schemes, 12km of new seawall, and removal or modification to about 6km of existing seawall.

“With the current activity and pipeline for Hong Kong and SE Asia in general, COWI and Donaldson have a strong position to make the reclamation and ground treatment segment grow even further,” says Brian Foged, market director – COWI Ground Engineering.
