HS2 chooses new absorbent Marine Booms to protect the environment
HS2 contractor Align JV, comprising Bouygues, Sir Robert McAlpine and VolkerFitzpatrick are piling the foundations for the 3.4km long Colne Valley Viaduct – the UK’s longest railway bridge.
While undertaking the work at this sensitive SSSI, Align JV have chosen a unique environmental protection solution from SME, Pro Earth.
Designed to stay in the water for the duration of the five-year project, the Pro Earth solution is manufactured in the UK and comprises four unique features:
- Booms manufactured from robust hydrophobic geotextile
- Filled with a non-leaching, hydrophobic material that absorbs hydrocarbons, chemicals and
heavy metals - Booms also mitigate against the toxicity of concrete washout water
- An attached weighted PVC silt curtain
The Ultimate Environmental Protection Solution for Waterways
Align JV chose the Pro Earth solution because, not only will the booms absorb any contamination, the curtain also stops any pollution escaping underneath the boom.
Each boom has overlapping connections for the required length.
