Positioned as a best-in-class radar detection system, EPIQ RADAR blends cutting-edge radar capabilities with integrated high-definition visual validation, setting a new standard for accuracy, reliability, and versatility in traffic monitoring.
At the heart of this breakthrough is a built-in 1080p HD camera operating at 30 frames per second, enhanced with low-light sensitivity. This enables traffic engineers to visually confirm detections in real-time, ensuring data accuracy and providing valuable context for traffic management decisions.
Sunny Chakravarty, Econolite’s Vice President of Engineering, emphasised the scope of the innovation: “The EPIQ RADAR sensor brings in cutting-edge FMCW radar technology with a 110-degree field of view and up to 900 feet of detection, requiring only two sensors to fully cover all approaches at most intersections. It’s ideally suited to address diverse intersection geometries with reliable detection, supporting a variety of dynamic traffic control and emerging smart mobility programmes to help reduce travel times and traffic congestion, while increasing safety for all roadway users.”
Fewer Sensors, Greater Coverage
Unlike conventional detection systems that require multiple devices to monitor a single intersection, EPIQ RADAR’s expansive range and wide field of view mean fewer sensors are needed to achieve full coverage. This translates into lower installation costs, simplified maintenance, and improved operational efficiency.
The system can track and classify up to 128 objects simultaneously from a pool of 512 unique detections. This precision allows for lane-by-lane classification, accurate vehicle counts, and travel ETA calculations. It also enables critical safety features such as dilemma zone mitigation and red-light running detection, helping authorities intervene before accidents happen.
