Tanzania awards a US$1.2 million contract for 300km of Railway

The Tanzania Government has awarded a US$ 1.2 million contract to a joint venture of Mota-Engil from Portugal and Yapi Merkezi Insaat VE Sanayi from Turkey for the construction of a 300km section of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) network planned for the east African countries of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

The contract should commence by the end of March 2017 and be completed within 30 months.

Tenders are expected to be invited for the construction of further sections of the SGR by the Tanzania government in the near future.
