Peab awarded rehabilitation of E20 highway outside of Gothenburg

Peab has been commissioned to rebuild four kilometers of the existing stretch of E20 between Tollered and Ingared outside of Gothenburg. The road section will be turned into a highway with a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour.

The customer is the Swedish Transport Administration and the contract is worth SEK 206 million.

The project includes building three interchanges along with a new combined overpass for both traffic and wild animals. In addition, Peab will build a new pedestrian and bicycle path from Tollered to Västra Bodarna. Around 23,000 vehicles a day currently travel on this stretch. By the year 2040 traffic is expected to have increased to 26,000 vehicles a day.

“Naturally we are pleased to contribute to the new road improving traffic safety and better passability. One of the challenges with the project is that existing traffic has to pass by the workplace, which puts very high demands on safeguarding our personnel,” says Berth Larsson, Region Manager Peab.

“This stretch of the road will strengthen E20 as a link in both existing and future roadways. The environmental measures we are taking will minimize encroachment into valuable environments and preserve the recreational quality and biodiversity in the area,” says Margaretha Rhodin, project leader for the Swedish Transport Administration.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2020.
