Aggregate Industries recognised for Carbon Reduction Gold Standard

Aggregate Industries has been recognised for its commitment to carbon reduction after gaining a globally recognised gold standard.

The leading UK building materials supplier, which has its group headquarters near Coalville, Leicestershire, achieved the PAS 2080 verification which specifies requirements for the management of whole-life carbon in buildings and infrastructure.

The standard ensures carbon is consistently measured during the lifecycle of a project and promotes the sharing of data, helping organisations to understand carbon ‘hotspots’ and identify opportunities to reduce the use of carbon through projects and the supply chain.

Aggregate Industries has held the PAS certification since 2019 and successfully underwent the certificate renewal process to the newly updated 2023 version of the standard, which is managed by the BSI. (British Standards Institute)

The updated standard widens the scope of PAS 2080 from infrastructure to the wider built environment, integrates the transition to a net zero economy, includes nature based solutions and factors in collaboration on projects.

Kirstin McCarthy, Director of Sustainability at Aggregate Industries, said: “We’re really pleased to be recognised in this way and it reinforces our commitment as a company to carbon reduction and data transparency.

“We are among the first product and materials suppliers to receive this verification in the UK and it aligns with our ongoing sustainability and net zero strategies.

“We want to help lead the way to help decarbonise the construction industry in the UK and it is only by greater innovation and collaboration that we can accelerate the journey to a net zero economy. For our industry, carbon management and reduction needs to be front and centre of decision making and project planning.”

The audit by BSI covered operations, materials, products and solutions, with a focus on low carbon products, energy, waste and biodiversity management. Aggregate Industries’ leading ‘Your Carbon Report’ tool delivered against the reporting elements of PAS 2080.

A team from Aggregate Industries was invited to BSI’s offices in Milton Keynes to receive the certificates earlier this month.
