To continue to support and inform our clients during this time, Reference Point has partnered with Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) to make available their suicide prevention training to its CourseSight community.

The training, which can be accessed via CourseSight, the training booking portal, takes approximately 20 minutes and leads users through the skills they might need to help someone who may be considering suicide, tackling stigma and, promoting open communication. A shorter introduction module – requiring five to 10 minutes – is also available.

Joe Rafferty, CBE, Chairman of the ZSA, said: “We’re pleased to partner with Reference Point to ensure that as many people as possible can access these free online courses. More than half a million people have accessed the online training that aims to prevent suicide in the last three weeks alone.”

Sarah Randall, CourseSight Product Manager at Reference Point comments: “These courses will be of great value to our CourseSight community. Mental health is a hugely important issue in the construction industry and now, more than ever, an emphasis on wellbeing is needed. I’m also very happy to be teaming up with the ZSA on this initiative and I thank them for allowing us to share these resources with our members free of charge.”

The Zero Suicide Alliance aims to help spot the signs that a person may need help. It comes as health leaders are warned that front-line workers tackling coronavirus could suffer from mental ill-health. According to the Office for National Statistics, there were 6,507 suicides registered in the UK in 2018, with three-quarters of them among men.

The Department of Health agreed on funding with the ZSA last year and reaching the million milestone was one of several targets set as part of the contract, including developing a digital resource of best practice in suicide prevention and developing a culture change awareness training package for Boards to encourage understanding of the impact of a Just and Learning Culture on suicide prevention.
