Protean in-wheel-motors wins CogX award for NEVS Autonomous Vehicle

Nevs were delighted that their partner Protean has won the #CogX2021Award for Best Innovation in Autonomous Vehicles for their work using NEVS Autonomous Vehicle.

ProteanDrive in-wheel-motors enable an adaptable interior and increases space in the vehicle.

Protean in-wheel-motors give us advantages such as improved packaging space in the vehicle design, allowing, for instance, more efficient packaging of the battery pack. Without the powertrain inboard, passenger capacity in the vehicle increases, as does access and cargo volume.

A motor at each wheel – also means improved comfort and tunability, reduced stopping distances, better obstacle avoidance and the ability to run on low friction surfaces. The reliability of any fleet vehicle is key.

In the worst case if one motor is completely shut down, the others can continue to operate with torque re-balanced across the vehicle to maintain performance and safety.
