Manitou Group Unleashes Sustainable Innovation at bauma
Manitou Group is turning heads at bauma with a bold showcase of future-forward machinery and sustainable engineering. At the world’s largest construction trade fair, the French equipment giant is making it crystal clear: the energy transition isn’t coming – it’s already here.
With nine cutting-edge models on display, including electric, hydrogen, and ultra-high telehandlers, Manitou is pushing boundaries and reshaping the future of construction and material handling.
This year’s exhibit is more than just a product display – it’s a declaration of Manitou’s commitment to low-emission, high-performance machinery that can keep up with the ever-evolving needs of modern job sites.
Trailblazing with Hydrogen
Hydrogen is fast becoming the darling of alternative fuel sources, and Manitou’s second-generation hydrogen telehandler concept is a major leap forward. The MRT 2260 H2 is a rotating telehandler powered by hydrogen via a fuel cell, delivering zero emissions without compromising on muscle.
This prototype is based on an electric model and includes a hydrogen-powered range extender, replacing the diesel extender commonly used in hybrid configurations. With a whopping 22-metre lifting height and a load capacity of 6 tonnes, this beast proves that hydrogen isn’t just clean – it’s capable.
As Arnaud Boyer, VP Marketing and Product Development, explain: “This prototype underlines our active role in the development of hydrogen-powered electric machines.”
Electric Power Without the Compromise
Manitou’s electric range takes another significant step forward with the introduction of two new high-lift models: the MT 1440e and MT 1840e. These telehandlers are engineered to perform without producing a single puff of exhaust.
Key highlights include:
- 63 kWh lithium-ion battery for a full day’s work on a single charge
- 14m and 18m lift heights, respectively
- Load capacity of up to 4 tonnes
- 13m outreach for complex site configurations
- Top speed of 25 km/h
- Integrated 9kW charger and optional 30kW fast charger compatibility
“Their level of performance enables users to gain in productivity while reducing their total cost of ownership,” adds Boyer. Energy costs are reportedly slashed by nearly 75% compared to combustion models.
These models are designed for compliance with Low Emission Zone (LEZ) regulations, and come with a two-year warranty plus a five-year battery capacity guarantee (70%). Sales across Europe are expected from Q4 2025.
Ultra-High Ambitions
Scaling new heights – literally – the MRT 4070 sets a new benchmark for lifting capability within the VISION+ range. This ultra-high rotating telehandler offers an eye-watering 40-metre lift height and a 7-tonne capacity.
Its standout features:
- 211hp engine with CVT transmission
- 27m outreach
- Fast site setup and superior manoeuvrability
- Easy Step cabin access and remote control operation
“The ability to work in tight spaces, combined with a small footprint, means we can offer a 40-meter lifting height model that’s simple to use and set up,” says Boyer.
Speedy Charging for a Fast-Moving Industry
Addressing one of the biggest concerns with electric machinery – charging time – Manitou is rolling out a new 30kWh external fast charger. Designed for off-road conditions, this rugged, transport-friendly unit enables a 60% charge in under an hour.
Features include:
- Fork pockets and lifting slings for easy movement
- Adaptable to local power grids via country-specific adapters
- Compatible with MT telehandlers and ME forklifts
Available from July 2025, this charger marks another step in Manitou’s strategy to make electric equipment practical, not just eco-friendly.
GEHL Line Shines at bauma
GEHL, a Manitou subsidiary known for rugged reliability, is well represented with a selection of articulated and track loaders, plus the R135 wheel loader.
Perfect for construction sites, these machines are renowned for:
- Tough builds and versatile attachments
- Simple, cost-effective maintenance
Expect to see crushers, graders, and concrete mixing buckets enhancing GEHL’s adaptability on site.
Deutsche Bahn Award-Winning Innovation
One of the show’s hidden gems is Manitou’s partnership with Deutsche Bahn. Their award-winning rail-specific track loader solution is shaking up underground cable construction.
Emitting fewer pollutants and reducing the need for zone closures, this approach is:
- Faster and more resource-efficient
- Equipped with adaptable attachments
- Designed for safety and minimal disruption
Compact Power on the Move
In the D/A/CH region, Manitou is now offering its ultra-lightweight ULM telehandler bundled with a specially designed aluminium trailer.
This setup makes it easy to zip from one jobsite to another, with built-in access ramps and a customisable tie-down equipment box.
Built for Mining
In the mining sector, flexibility meets durability with the MHT 790 Stage V telehandler. Capable of handling a variety of attachments like tyre clamps and jacks, it’s built to support heavy-duty maintenance in rugged environments.
Manitou is also showcasing its new SC 28 hydraulic breaker. Its compact design lets it get right up to the wall in underground settings, while its solid construction ensures it can take a beating.
Vertical Platforms with Smart Upgrades
Manitou’s VJR access platforms have been overhauled with new control panels, making them even easier to operate in confined spaces. With working heights of 8m and 10m, these electric platforms are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Added features:
- Smartview diagnostics system
- Harness detection for enhanced operator safety
- Fork pockets for easy transport
Circular Thinking
