Swerock Debuts World’s Largest Electric Concrete Pump at bauma
As the world charges ahead in the transition to greener infrastructure, the unveiling of a revolutionary all-electric concrete pump by Swerock, Volvo Trucks, and Putzmeister is setting new benchmarks at bauma 2025, Germany’s premier construction equipment exhibition.
The collaboration has resulted in one of the largest battery-electric concrete pumps globally, a game-changer for sustainable construction and civil engineering projects.
Swerock, a significant player within Sweden’s Peab Group, continues to drive forward the electrification agenda across the Nordic construction sector. With sustainability now a core business strategy, this new innovation reinforces their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
Collaboration Sparks Electrification Breakthrough
The long-standing partnership between Swerock and Volvo Trucks, established back in 2015, has consistently delivered forward-thinking electric and hybrid solutions for the construction industry. Teaming up with German machinery giant Putzmeister has allowed for a powerful synergy, resulting in the pioneering electric concrete pump showcased at bauma.
“We’ve had fantastic collaborations with Volvo and Putzmeister over the years, and now we’ve reached a new level together,” said Angelika Bohlin, Managing Director of Swerock Sweden. “By completely reducing emissions from our concrete vehicles, we are making an important environmental investment for the future, our children, and grandchildren. In addition, the new all-electric concrete pump is both quiet and emission-free, providing our employees with a significantly improved working environment.”
Key Features and Performance
The all-electric concrete pump is built on a Volvo FM Electric 8×4 Rigid Tag Tridem chassis and boasts impressive specs that position it uniquely within the industry:
- Driveline: Two powerful electric motors delivering continuous output of 330 kW, paired with Volvo’s renowned I-Shift gearbox.
- Battery system: Equipped with four advanced battery units, featuring a specially designed energy storage system totalling 360 kWh, with a usable capacity of 250 kWh.
- Charging: The CCS2 standard allows simultaneous pumping and battery charging. Capable of charging at rates up to 250 kW DC or 43 kW AC, it ensures minimal downtime on-site.
- Range and Operation: Able to travel up to 50 km on a single charge and pump approximately 50 cubic metres of concrete without additional charging, it supports seamless operations for most urban construction tasks. For larger tasks, quick-charging facilities can be installed on-site, enabling continuous work without disruptions.
- Total Weight: The robust four-axle configuration comfortably supports a total weight of 32 tonnes, optimised for the rigours of construction environments.
A Greener Way Forward
Traditional concrete pumping operations typically rely on diesel engines that contribute significantly to noise and air pollution on construction sites. The all-electric alternative from Swerock radically transforms the construction environment, eliminating exhaust fumes and significantly reducing operational noise levels.
This innovation not only enhances site conditions but also aligns perfectly with the stringent environmental targets increasingly set by governmental and regulatory bodies across Europe.
According to Angelika Bohlin, this innovative pump marks a critical milestone in Swerock’s sustainability journey: “Swerock is one of the largest companies in the Nordic market for concrete trucks and concrete pumps, and now we’re leading the way in the industry’s sustainable transition. We’re incredibly proud of that.”
Sustainable Industry Leadership
Swerock’s leadership role is further underscored by ambitious climate goals, such as aiming to slash CO2 emissions from concrete by 50% by 2030. Achieving these targets will significantly reduce the environmental impact of construction, setting a precedent for others to follow.
Volvo Trucks, too, has established itself as a global leader in battery-electric trucks, capturing nearly half the European market share. Since launching series production of electric trucks in 2019, Volvo has delivered over 4,900 electric trucks worldwide, continually pushing the envelope in electrifying construction transport solutions.
Putzmeister, an iconic brand in construction equipment manufacturing, has been innovating since 1958. With global reach and local adaptation, the company remains committed to technological advancement and manufacturing excellence. Their collaboration in this electric concrete pump project further emphasises their role in shaping sustainable solutions for modern construction challenges.
Showcasing at bauma 2025
Visitors to bauma can experience this electrifying innovation first-hand at Putzmeister’s exhibition stand in Hall B6, available from April 7th to April 13th. Additionally, Volvo Trucks will elaborate on their commitment to sustainable transportation solutions during a dedicated press conference at their stand in Hall C6 on April 8th at 10 a.m.
As the construction industry pivots towards a cleaner, more sustainable future, the pioneering efforts of companies like Swerock, Volvo Trucks, and Putzmeister underline the critical role of collaborative innovation. These initiatives not only shape tomorrow’s construction sites but also foster an environment conducive to healthier cities and communities.
Driving a Sustainable Construction Future
The launch of this impressive electric concrete pump at bauma represents more than a technological breakthrough; it symbolises a clear path forward for the entire industry. With construction professionals, policymakers, and investors increasingly aligning on sustainability goals, innovations like this concrete pump set benchmarks that define industry best practices.
Swerock’s bold steps today undoubtedly pave the way for a greener, cleaner tomorrow.
